Why did you choose a Z28 or an SS?
The Z28 was at the right place, time and price.

No SS's in my price range when I was shopping.

I was close to signing a deal on a 02 Pewter 345HP SS but the dealership kept giving me around we finally agreed on numbers when they tried to slip in lease paperwork so I left. Over the next day they kept calling me to try and work a deal I gave them toe bottom line on what I wanted the car for and how much a months, ect.. So I found a dealership that had an 01 pewter Z/28 new with 17 miles on it loaded all options when I called the Internet manager offered me the car ($27,989) for $1500 under invoice. When all was said and done I walked out with a loaded Z/28 for $23,790 :)
So when I figure out the cost of the SS out the door I saved just over $10k plus my car is just as fast if not faster then many 345 SS's that I have seen with a dyno run of 307 RWHP I am very happy with my choice.

For some reason, I just had to have the SS when I got one. The Z28 is the same car, but to many, it just isn't as nice, nor will it ever be in their eyes (you know how people are).
I had a hard time finding one myself...my dad ended up locating one in a small farming community in Indiana. The guy that ordered it ended up losing his job while it was being built, and could never pick it up. Many people looked at it and test drove it, but none wanted it (it had 100 miles on it when I picked it up). It had all the options I could have ever wanted, and when all was said and done, I walked out the door with it for $28K.
To tell you the truth, I never even test drove the car...I let my dad do all the footwork. I had only rode in one WS6, and drove a 96 SS once upon a time (which got me hooked). It was a bit of an impulse decision, but I've never looked back. I'm soooo glad I got this car...I get compliments all the time. I even had one guy pull up next to me on the street and say "Wow man, nice car. I didn't even know they made anything like that." He had never even seen an SS.

I got the SS for a few reasons.
Hood (Fell in love wtih 4th gens for this reason alone)
Ram air
Spoiler looks better
345 hp package
Duel Center mount exhuast
17" wheels (about to be 18's, I think)
I've always jut liked the sound of SS over Z28

I got the Z because the only SS I could find in my area had been beat on and I ended up getting my Z for almost 8k less than the SS's in my area. Besides with the money I saved I can always buy a new hood:D

Great price, and it was in really good condition. And very low mileage.
People are still surprised that my car is 11 years old..... they always think it's like a '96-97

At the time, I was going to sell my old car for about $8k, pay off the $3k that I owed, and use the money in my account to spend about $10k-11k on a used F-body. Then my parents stepped in and said they'd pay for some for a graduation present and I could pick up the rest.
So I still thought about $12k-14k, but I ended up getting my 2000 Z28 for $16,250 with only 19k miles on her. If I knew I was going to be able to spend 16k, I'd have gotten an SS, but the Z was just there at the right time and place. I took her home that night! Besides, for what the dealers in the St. Louis area around here wanted for a used SS, I could save the money and put more mods on my car.

I got the Z because the monthly payments were about $300 less!
I was looking at a 01 345hp SS, with EVERYTHING. the lowest monthly payments they wanted to give me was in the $800's I said screw that, so they told me about the Z28 on the lot, It took alot of thinking because I really wanted a SS, mostly because of the name/look/history of the SS.
Then I found out my Z was damn near totaled, I'm sueing the dealer, and I'll have a SS sometime soon, no big deal now :D

The SS just looked much better than the Z. Plus, the GMAC family discount let me purchase a new 99' SS for 25K out the door. :)

Im kinda the same way. I had to have the top model. I also had to have the CME and the hood. The 345hp was a nice option also.

I bought mine because of looks and the SS heritage.:)
Although the hood really isnt that functional I like the look of it better. I also like the LT1 Z/28 hoods better than the LS1 Z's.
I had a 94 Z/28 before I bought my SS and wished I still had it. That car was pushing 400 HP but it was an A4 and I REALLY wanted an M6.
Thats why I got my SS, the hood and the 6-speed. If my SS was an A4 I would still be tooling around in my Z.

If I didn't get GMS. I would have bought a Z.

Too me the Z28 hood is too bland. The looks of the SS was perfect:)

i like stealth mode. i sometimes wish i didnt get the SS hood on my car. i want it to be inconspicuas. thats why i spent 2k on exhaust and still have stock tips, and why the shift light, line lock and cutout switch are all hiding.

Couldn't decide, so I got both.
Like the Camaro's much more than the Firebird/TA. More sleak looking.

I agree with that. With the limited number and the 30th anniversary they were going like hotcakes back then.
To bad the trend didnt continue. :(

SS because thats what I was looking for. Always liked the Camaros no matter what. I just made up my mind and went for it.

I was originally looking at TA's. I ran across the SS (which I had not seen before), and was hooked. It had every option and was the color I wanted. I was also planning on keeping it stock ;)
I like a clean stealthy look. I like how vettes have no scoops and spoilers, and i like 360 modenas better than 550 barchettas for the same reason. I know most laypeople like all that "look at me" stuff but I got my car for me, and not to impress others. I dont like to draw attention to it for no reason. I could have gotten a year older SS when i got mine for the same price but wanted the clean look.

I picked up the Z mainly for the price but also, Z/28 has such a greater heritage than the SS. The Z/28 was the TOP DOG model all throughout its lifetime. So I figured I would carry on the great tradition of the Z car. Just watch it be the top dog once the fifth gen comes out again...
LONG LIVE THE Z/28:drive:

This is my 9th f-body all being Camaro Z28 and 2 now being SS's. I had a red 96 auto for awhile. I picked my current one up just because it is so rare. I do like the looks of the SS's with the hood and wheels but all in all there the same to me

I had always fantasized about the SS since I was a kid..
I never knew about the Z28 until high school. And there, I was thinking, these cheap asses cant get the real deal, the legend, the SS!
Only even more later did I find out the engine similarities, etc.. Still, it was engraved in my mind, SS is where its at. I had seen 30 Z28's for every one SS I saw my whole life. I was in love with the fact the car was just called "SS". It was like heritage for a new age.
My dad's first car was a 1969 SS Camaro. Now, I have a 99 SS Camaro. I could not have made a better choice. White leather, all the options,.. Got it for 12,995 3 months ago. It was garaged kept and owned by a 65 year old man. I got it the day he traded it in for his 50th An Vette. Im in love with my car, and im in love with the fact that Z28 owners spend alot of money to make their car look like mine..

i got my Z28 because i wanted to change the hood and spoiler...not that i dont like the ss appearance, but i have a thing about someone having the same thing as me. i would be pissed if i drove a car and one just like it pulled up next to me. you can always make the car go faster so HP doesnt matter between the 2. i just think its pointless to get an SS if your gonna change the entire apearance of the car. opn the other hand, i also think its pointless if you get a Z28 and put the SS spoiler and hood, why not just get the SS.

I got my z28 for a few reasons ....
-z28 sounds cooler than SS in my book:cool:
-I liked the fact that i could start from scratch w/ the z28 and build it the way i wanted .... not the way SLP wanted.
-I dig the stealthier look, and IMO the z28 is sleeker lookin than the SS.
-Same engine/HP .... and cheaper
-Oh ... and i enjoy seein the faces of stock SS owners after i pull them by a car or two:D (no offense to SS owners, but some owners have an ego problem)
