Was out with my mom today and the dealership had a few G8's in so we swung in to take a look. After talking to the salesman for a while we ended up taking the GT version for a spin.
I must say the car seems nice for the money. Yes the interior is not all that nice but considering the price and everything else the car offers it is to be expected from GM. The car had some pretty nice power and lots of room in it. Im a big guy and the car was much more comfortable then my moms cadilac STS, had more room in the back as well, and the trunk space of this car is really nice. Someone posted a few days back and said you could fit three dead bodies in the trunk and they were not joking.
If only they offered a 6 speed.

I dont understand all the knocking on the G8 interior.,,LMAO.. you guys all forget the shitty TA and camaro interiors we recently had?
I had a 98 TA and the interior grew on me and I liked it..but looking athe G8 its definatelt light years better in the inside than the POS FBods were, w/there hump on the passenger side floor. Also the G8 is a HR considering a loaded WS6 was about the same price new... its a no brainer.

so just because its not as shitty as the horrendous fbody interior, we should be happy?

these reports of the interior make my nana sad. i was hoping it would have a GTO level interior; all the concept pics showed it having one :sadnana:

It looks identical, but the top dash material is hard plastic instead of the spongy GTO material and I don't think it has the suede(ish) covered panels that the GTO has on the lower part of the door/dash/center console.
The steering wheel/cluster/radio stack are better than the GTOs IMO.

I was refering more to the quality of materials used on the interior. Is it nicer than the interior on my f-body....Absolutley. The seats remind me of the gto seats but the dash material is just some kinda crappy plastic, however considering the price of the car we probably shouldnt expect much more.
I think overall the car was very impresive just think the interior materials used could have been a little nicer than what they are. A GXP model with an LS3 and a six speed trans could probably make me forget about the flaws I feel the interior has.

Flex,
Its not the design that is shitty, but the quality of materials used. It feels like a 20k car.

I saw the interiors, I know its the regular theme we are use to from GM, but its not a far cry from what we see in the C6, or even worse- the C5s!
This car is selling for only $30K and offers alot in terms of practicality being a sedan, looks, suspension, brakes, and handling- and I just find it interesting everone is knocking the interior when weve seen much, much worse in even more expencuve, less practical cars- know what I mean?
Gosh I look at used C5 listings and the interior is so generic and ugly ala' GM.. And as I said previsously, did everyone forget the retarded passenger floor hump in our fbods, along with all the other shitty materials??
My beggest knock on the G8 is that there is no built in satellite radio or nav. otherwise this car is a home run for sure. Way nicer looking than the GTOs too, and 4 doors.

If only they offered a 6 speed. I checked one out too, the interior is shit for that price, the same materials as my cheap G5. The car may have some decent power but the interior is a joke at that price. My Mazdaspeed6 was the same sticker price and the interior was an order of magnitude better.

What am I missing here? Wasnt the Camaro SS and the WS6 about $30K new, and offered less? Even the GTO! (coupe vs sedan)

How about sticking to what's available now or in the last year? How about comparing it to a Z28 or Formula for price VS performance, minus the leather they were the same car as the WS6/SS and several thousand dollars less.
The fact is for a $30k+ sedan the interior is sadly lacking. It appears that they use the same cheap rubber center armrest as in my cheap G5 for cripes sakes.
Again, my Speed6 at the same price was a night and day superior interior in every respect.

When everything is near perfect in the car
the price
the exterior looks good
the drive train ,
the suspension
the space , the trunk
the chassis 50/50
the handling
when the interior is visually appealing , the seating position is excellent , the seats are comfortable.
we turn to the the materials used on the dash
its the only thing we can still knock !

just stating the facts ... ;)
every damn review i've read of the car stated the interior is above average for a car in this price range.
If there was a glaring problem we would have known about it.
simple fact is , if the car looked like shit , handled like crap , and was uncomfortable , the interior wouldnt even be a topic.

every report i've heard from those who have seen the G8's in person was that the interior was disappointing, and not on par with the GTO... of 4 years ago :sadnana:

Takes a sack rider to know when one is being ridden properly. He was just showing cm_lsi how to properly ride and maintain a sack.

didn't you see my smiley, OLIVER? ;) i was just trying to stir shit up
while i do think of you as something of an audi sack rider (although the S5 is fuckin nice), your level of sack riding thereof is not even in the same ballpark as cm_ls1's of the G8  he talks of the G8 as though it will drive on water, cure lepers, and turn coke to pepsi :story:

OK I feel that I am a reasonable judge of vehicles, and I happened to have a G8 GT all loaded up for the weekend (brought it to a car show).
I was very very impressed by the ride and handling and braking. I felt there was more wind noise than my Malibu, and a much stiffer ride (which is to be expected). The acceleration was strong, and the overall ride of the car was decent on all types of roads (interstates, construction zones, winding backroads). My boyfriend who drives a Lexus got in it and after a quick spin said he would prefer this car over his current vehicle.
My complaints were not so much about the materials that were used (I felt they were similar to that of the GTO) but that the overall center stack and controls were confusing, and I always felt like I was searching for something. I also felt that the headroom was lacking, even though I am not tall. I just couldn't get the seat to a comfortable position (especially the head rest).
I would say that for the money, it is a solid value. People around here need to get off the interior thing. The car is here, and crying on the internet is pointless. What matters is how is drives, and that to me was just right.

Just wondering, but they're power seats, right? How much can you change the seat position? Does it have settings for different people that it remembers?

They are a power seat bottom, but the back is not. I felt like I couldn't get the seat down as low as I would have liked, and that the knob to move the back was a little hard to reach. There are not memory seating positions.

The interiors fine in the G8 for christ sake. My SS stickered for 33K plus and this interior kills it 6 years later and for cheaper.
Lets see. Better interior, more power, more comfort....winner!!!!
How much did the Mazdaspeed6 STICKER for may I ask?
Night and day difference. Not hardly. I have been in one and they are nothing to write home about. Plastic is plastic

The 4th gen F-bods have an nice interior, very well designed. Some of the materials leave something to be desired but that is the complaint with the g8. Its not bad but it isn't great either.
I cannot imagine they could not have thrown another $1k in it and made it much nicer. My guess is they wanted to stick under the 30k price point.

The 4th gen fbody's have a "nice interior"?
And you question the G8 interior?
Take a look at a camaro or trans am steering collum by the turn signal stalk. Notice the 2 by 2 inch square cut out that you could hide your crack cocaine in. GM made no attempt at putting some kind of plastic cover or boot. The seats and dash are made by fisher price. The G8's interior is much nicer than any Fbody period.
Oh yeah I like the Fbody seat sprockets that are wide open exposing the mechanism for leaning your seat back for the world to see. And yes I still have the SS. Maybe not for long.. Any takers. Only 24K on the OD. I want a G8.

I also don't understand why there's so much hatred over the G8's interior. I've been driving a G8 for the past two and a half months and I have no complaints about the interior (well, with the exception of the dial used to recline the seats). Last week I rode in an Infinity G35x that my co-worker has and I honestly can't say the interior in that car was any better than the G8 GT. The controls on the G8's center stack are a little confusing at first but you quickly get used to them.
This is such a fun car to drive!
