Atco is probably the fastest track in the country. This car will run low 14's/high 13's at my local track.

Atco isn't a 'fast' track. Their is nothing magical about it. Its in NJ and they stay open during the colder months, thats the only advantage.

FWIW we had an '04 A4 GTO that went 13.59 @ 103 MPH at Atco and when I posted those times several years ago lots of guys discredited it because it was at Atco.

As luck would have it the wife and I moved 550 miles south and the car made a trip to Rockingham Dragway in NC and actually ran better, 13.47 @ 103.XX. So much for the magic of Atco, eh?

My '02 Z28 is a stock automatic car and ran a 12.95 bone stock. I'm not sure exactly where that ranks among stock FBodies, but I'm fairly certain its the quickest stock auto LS1 FBody. I didn't run that at Atco, that was also done at Rockingham.

People who doubt the times out of Atco need to go there. Take a look at the type of people who race there during the winter months. The Atco guys tend to be much more detail oriented. They just don't show up at the line with extra weight, crap tires etc. I think the guys that run well at Atco are just more educated/experienced racers.

I just seriously evaluated buying this car today..the wife and I just got back. The local Pontiac dealer up here has a black on black one. It's fucking  ..i cant stop talking about how badass the car was in black. The dealership had a $6,100 markup on it bringing the cost to $38K. I sat down with the salesman and tried to work out a deal since it wasn't *exactly* what I wanted. (i want the two-tone onyx/red leather interior and a sunroof). I was told you cant even order these cars yet so whatever's out there is what you get to choose from. After some heavy consideration, i walked.

I will own one. I just need to be able to order what I want or some dealership has to get one in. Thats BIG money for that car, though..$38K is ridiculous. I was pretty impressed overall..it could use more options (navigation primarily) but its so goddamn good-looking its hard to find fault anywhere. If it really is that quick it just reinforced my decision to buy one. :)

Wait until they fill the lots up in time and they don't move due to the cost of gas and they'll be dealing under invoice on em.

yeah it was there because of the fact it's one of the "first 888"..they had a red GT there that wasn't and it had more options and was still $32K. The markup was purely because of it being a "first 888" version. :thumbdn:
BFD i say. I just couldnt pay that much more money for it while the red GT was $32K and had every option i wanted...but it was fucking RED. :thumbdn:
I'll wait till i can get one with all the options. They've got to be adding NAV to later models..I really cant believe they didnt inclide it yet gave the car a fricken 6" LCD stereo. :nosulk:
You *can* get turn-by-turn navigation on the G8, but it's in the form of Onstar.
The car is almost 100% there as far as my preferences go.

How do you like yours? MPG estimates yet?

dont count on it, where the radio is situated, GM cannot legally put in a nav system in the car...it would need to be raised. in other words, the entire center console would need to be redesigned.

it doesnt make any sense, the car was built with "america in mind" but then they go and design the center console like that :boggled:

$6100 is just nuts. It's just a family sedan for chrissakes

I  mine, but I would not have paid any mark up on it. That would have definitely been a deal breaker. If I could not find one without mark up, I would have ordered exactly what I wanted...so it wouldn't have been '888'...it's not a big deal. You get a cool VIN and your dash says 'first 888'...being the way cars depreciate so hard, it won't make a difference. If anything the '09 G8s will probably come with more cool features anyway

I have not taken mine on any highway trips, so 100% of my driving is city. I am seeing about 17mpg now. No it's not the best, but the car totally makes up for it.

I noticed you said your interior was kindof cheap-feeling and interior-guys wouldn't really like it. I'm an interior-guy. ;) I thought it wasn't bad, but my VERY first impression was that I was hoping for more quality. It was designed nice, but there were a number of cheap-feeling/looking surfaces. I got the impression the "chrome" trim around the dash surfaces would peel off and flake in a couple years. Not that it would in reality, but it just seemed like it. Overall it grew on me a bit the longer i sat in there - how is the interior noise though? I didnt drive it but the car felt pretty solid. Does it creak and rattle over bumps and/or railroad tracks etc., or is it solid & quiet? I cant stand interiors that rattle. Any wind-noise with it all buttoned-up?

It has grown on me in the couple weeks that I've had it - at first I was not impressed though. I like the leather wrapped stuff - like the shift knob, door panels..etc what I don't like is the ridiculous oil pressure/battery voltage in the center console. Being that it is made of huge pixels, it just looks very 80's to me. And then you have this really nice, modern looking LCD screen 6" below it :hmm: Overall it looks nice though.

It's very quiet inside. It doesn't creak or rattle...you can carry on a conversation at a whisper if you like. The car feels VERY solid.

You know though.

The aussie one does have a nav option. I really wonder how hard it would be to order the aussie part and just stick it in. I mean the only thing i can see stopping it is if they dont have north american dvds.

As far as the legal stipulations for the location of the NAV unit (too low) doesnt the Vette have a Nav unit in the exact same place? Its definitely not upper-dash, its right in the middle like the G8.

Vette you sit much lower in.

If you like at the new WRX/STi they moved the nav up and dropped the hvac vents down.

I assume it was for the line of sight.

Why are there markups only at some dealerships?

At my local Pontiac dealer, http://www.abeloff.com/home.aspx?bhcp=1 they have the white G8 GT and the sticker is $31K. No markup..

Its suck a fuking deal imho. Thing that burns my ass, is that I always said when I spent so much $$ on a car, especially new one, it would have everthing I wanted (nav and satellite radio)..so thats the only issues I have with it..

Some dealerships have markups because there is always someone who will pay that extra $$ to have the next hot thing. In some areas more than others.

When I bought mine they said it'd be getting a $2500 markup the next day (not that it would have still been there by then). Would have been a dealbreaker for me.

HRP is a great track in cooler weather. Raughhammer went 11.9X in his '98 Z28 years back before their were tuning options and with a Vig 2800 stall. He was one of the first LS1s to push the performance envelope and his magic was worked at HRP.

Verbs, come on. This is a totally different car than a GTO. The GTO has a useless trunk and a backseat thats very difficult to get into/out of it.

The G8 is an ideal car for long trips, the trunk/back seat is HUGE.

Maybe Kelly can post some better picture of hers to show you guys just how big the backseat is. Shaq and Yao Ming could sit back there without an issue.

News from Oz

VE SS = Same basic hardware as a G8 GT (when stock) but with no AFM gear.
Mods listed below.

"SSEnforcers VE SS A6 did a best of 12.022s on the weekend at WSID, we think this is a best for a stock stalled A6 VE.

Its race weight was 1790kg with driver. [4010 lbs]
It consistently ran 12.0- most of the day and was using Hoosier Drag Radials on Omega rims and brakes. It still had its aftermarket 20" rims on the front.
The car has a 224 228 114 cam, Imported CNC'd L92 heads, large 4 into1s, 2.92 stock diff, Charlies Orssom Intake (no filter). Oztrack Mafless Tuned.
312rwkw [420+ RWHP]

The data of the best run was
1.921, 12.022/117.7mph with 20deg C [68F] ambient temps and 1027 pressure. 14 deg C [57F] dewpoint.

WE were disappointed it didnt get into the 11.9s. The pass however weather corrects at the same weight to 11.978/118.1 mph - so its just a matter of racing on a better day and maybe with some front runners."

I agree with this - the car feels like a tank. It's much quieter than a GP GXP, though that might be partially due to the tires. I'm keeping the G8 GXP on my radar... I'm considering getting one when/if they come out....

They're both two of the fastest tracks, but Atco tends to always have good prep and they're not stingy with the VHT. ETown tends to be hit or miss.
