Well, I think I've decided to sell the Z and buy a Corvette. What should I look for? Also, not sure on pricing and how long most places loan on a vette. Is it possible to buy a C5 for like ~ $550 a month? Is there any years I need to watch for? I heard something about the 98's having paint problems? What about 99's or 00's? Keep in mind I don't know much about corvettes. What about maintenance and everything? Horrible? Thanks for any info.

Horsepower took a little jump in '01...there are coupes, convertables, fixed roof coupes and Z06s...lotsa little changes throughout C5 life. Check out www.corvetteforum.com for the answer to ANY question you might have...lotsa forum dealers selling new Vettes for 10-11-12K off the sticker...UNBELIEVEABLE!!!
I had not heard anything about bad paint in C5 life...if you get an Auto stick, get the "performance" gear, 6 speed comes with it...Fixed Roof Coupe was supposed to be the bargain flyweight and is the pre Z06 (usually loaded up)...345HP to 350HP...Z06s are (2001) 385HP to 405HP beyond 2001. 6 speed models may have an oil leak problem (rings) but many with this problem got the re-ring from GM and no further problems...older cars have a "regular" car battery with the computer wires right underneath the battery...leakage and electrical probs...'01 got the AGM glass mat battery so no leakage...column lock is many times cured by column lock by-pass purchased by those who feared their column locking up...just a taste, I am sure others will chime in soon!

Thanks alot. I'm currently looking at an '02. They're wanting $33.9 for it. It's at a porsche dealership. 32K miles, 6-speed, black, chrome wheels. Haven't drove it yet, but it looked awesome :) Is that about right? Haven't been looking for that long. Thanks for the info!!!

Is this 2002 C5 a Vert or Coupe? Any appearance or performance mods already done? The price seems a little high considering the 32K miles, however if you have good credit & are very patient, then I bet they will come down on the price.

About 18 months ago I bought my 2001 C5 Coupe for $36,600. It only had 8700 miles on the odo & was in excellent condition. It took me almost three hours to get them to come down from $39,600. Plus, at first they offered me $20,000 for my 2002 TA on trade in, yet to close the deal they gave me $21,000.

BTW, you will not regret switching from an FBody to a Y-Body.

To get a good idea of prices, check out www.autotrader.com

I wish we had as much selection here in Canada as you guys have down there. Our prices aren't as good either. I'm currently looking for an automatic 97 or 98 C5 coupe, but cannot afford anything over $30,000 CDN. Ideally I want to find a dealer with a high mileage C5 who is willing to take my Formula plus $20,000 in cash for his C5. That means I'd have a better chance if I find a C5 priced at $27k or less. I've only seen one so far at that price (but it was a month or so ago, before I officially started looking for one)

The '02 I was looking at was a coupe (removable tops). But they only wanted to give me around $7K for my Z. And I still owe more than that on it, so the payments were going to be like ~$650.............Ouch, I'd rather go with new for that price. But anyways, still looking for one. I've found quite a few other vette's for less than they wanted, so I decided to pass on it. If, I sale my Z, it'll make it alot easier. won't have to mess with a dealership to do trade in. So, where do all of you borrow money from? I don't think our banks here will go over three years on a used C5. Thanks again.

Chris,

You are wise to pass that '02 Coupe up. Be patient, you will find a good deal. Since the C5s have a good resale value I'll bet the banks will loan for more than 3 yrs on a 1998 & up, if you have good credit. Yes, you will get more for your Z28 by making a sale to an individual.

Good luck.

I just got a new 04 C5 vert for $650 a month. If you wanted a new coupe I'd guess $575-600. That was on a 72 month loan.
