The 6L80 (and similar 6L90) is a 6-speed automatic transmission built by General Motors at their Willow Run Transmission plant, in Ypsilanti, MI. It was introduced in late 2005, and is very similar in design to the smaller 6L45/6L50, produced at GM Powertrain in Strasbourg, France. In February 2006, GM announced that they would invest $500 million to expand the Toledo Transmission plant in Toledo, Ohio to produce the 6L80 in 2008.

In effect they have already gone very tall on the final gearing.
0.667 + 2.92 rear ratio + 18 or 19" tires

Any detail on the size of this trans.?

In regard to swap potential and in directly comparison to the 4L60-E, specifically.

Sorry I don't have the 6L80 dimensions. As far as swap potental older PCM's communicating with the integrated 32-bit electro-hydraulic controller could be a huge hurdle.

A new, 32-bit electro-hydraulic control module optimizes transmission performance according to a variety of vehicle inputs, while also enabling features including tow/haul mode, auto grade braking and manual range selection. The controller is located entirely within the transmission and operates while immersed in transmission fluid. Locating the controller internally shields the controller from outside elements.

"it's the CAN bus that changes everything. The trans will only talk to the new 58X Gen 4 engines/controllers."

doesn't gm sell an independent trans controller that takes input directly from the engine's sensors? i know it's expensive, but so is a 4l80e swap lol
