I apologize if this has been covered but you can't search for "G8" because it's too short of a word :sadnana:
Ok I thought I read somewhere that GM was hoping to sell 20,000 of these cars. But then I called the local dealer and they said only 888 would be V8s...so are they making a shite load of V6's, or is 20k the projected # over the lifespan of the vehicle
And 888...how the fork am I going to get my hands on one?

that dealer is retarded
the first 888 G8s will have a special glove box code, little plaque, and some sort of letter or something
there was a similar thing with the solstice but no one really noticed or cared

"Mooney said the deal will last "for the life cycle of the car," rumoured to be around 6 years, but he would not be drawn on volume or the value to the company of this export program.
"I'm not going to give a forecast because I will be wrong. Let me just say we think it has potential to be our largest export market. It could be upwards of 20-plus per cent of our local production volume."
Bob Lutz, the GM vice chairman for product told drive.com.au at the Detroit show earlier this year that annual volumes of 30,000 to 50,000 were possible."

From what I've read...
About 40,000 vehicles will be available. They are saying around 75% of G8's sold will be sedans and the G8ST and G8SW will make up the other 25%.

I still don't understand why the damn thing didn't hit the magic 400hp mark. :?:

It's only a cam swap away from putting over 400hp to the wheels. That's with a mild cam swap. And it has better heads than the ls2.

AFM and tuned for crap fuel.
:al gore:
Don't know how it will affect the Active Fuel Management (D.O.D.), but even adding a small 220 ish cam gets you over 400 rwhp.
In Aus lots of people are removing the AFM hardware, tiny cam and DOD lifters and then using the L76 as a cheap power upgrade for older cars.
USA guys with 6 litre blocks, same L92 heads and same L76 intake as G8GT are up around 480-490 rwhp with larger custom cams. Go look at LS2 engine with L92 head swaps on GTO or Corvette forums.

I was gonna say, 20k units isn't worth the effort for GM.

Ok, stupid question, I've tried keeping up but mabe I missed it, but is the G8 coming with a Nav unit as an option? I saw the Onstar with turn by turn navigation, but that is something different right?

Thanks. Not to hijack this thread and turn it into anothr Nav debate, but I'm not sure what GM is thinking in not including? Does anyone know if it'll at least be offered somewhere down the line?

No. That's the only thing that really disappoints me about this car... well, that and the lack of a Bluetooth handsfree option. The real problem is that the top line of the Blaupunkt headunit also serves as the temperature/controls display for the dual-zone climate system so aftermarket headunits are not a viable option. :( I wouldn't count on navigation becoming available unless it gets a running refresh in later production cycles. A Bluetooth handsfree kit might be available from AUS Holden.
The car is a winner otherwise. I'm just spoiled with HID headlamps, navigation, bluetooth and satellite radio, none of which will be available on the G8 immediately. I can buy a fking Nissan Versa or Honda Civic with those options, but not a $30K+ GM product.

:werd: I was really hoping for an HUD option as well. I just don't understand GM's thinking as just like you said, $20k cars offer many of these options, but the G8 doesn't. Such a worldclass car, and yet it lacks some basic amenities.

I'm really excited about this car. Every picture I've seen makes me want one. I hung up the poster that came in the Motor Trend in my workshop.

I like the G8, but no Nav is a really poor decision. Blue tooth is also very nice to have, but I could live without it. AWD would be a nice option for us notherners, but since Pontiac doesn't do that, I won't even bother wishing they had it.

I'm not throwng a cam into a new car.:boggled: I know about L92 head swaps and all that stuff I just could not see myself doing that with a G8. If I want to mod the hell out of a 6L I will buy a GTO. I'm' just sayng it feels weird seeing the numbers of a G8 being lower then that of a Vortec Maxx.

Also, does anyone know when the '09's are going to come out? Will it be march '09, or at the end of this year? Just wondering because I'd like to get a manual as well.

Well here's some good news for you then. Before today I'd seen reports of only one other un-opened tuned L76 that outperformed my speed density (mafless) tuned LS2 with bolt-ons only.
Now today I'm reading a magazine article from the same shop and same dyno that tuned my LS2. With the same basic intake and exhaust mods and a speed density (mafless) tune on both engines the L76 with A6 auto put down the same as my LS2 M6.
That's going to read about 370 - 380 rwhp on your dynos there.
An M6 L76 with the same intake and exhaust mods and a speed density (mafless) tune put down way more than I've seen on any un-opened 6 litre LS2.
That's going to read about 400 - 405 rwhp on your dynos there.
On it's first pass and then all night long the A6 L76 in the VE-SS on standard street tyres did constant 12.8 @ 110mph.
There's another un-opened speed density tuned L76 in a VE SS that's reportedly running 12.0's....I got no details of the trim, tyres or bolt-ons though.
Saw a G8 this weekend with Michigan plates. Looked AWESOME.

Azteks had a HUD? Did not know that, only ones I knew of were vettes, gran prix GTP/GXPs, and bonneville SSEi/GXPs.
