Is there a Sabb sedan on the same platform as the G8? I was at the mall the other day with new GM cars placed everywhere...I was like oh shit..the G8!..got closer and it was a Sabb something. Looked just like the G8 though.

No. I think that might be the 9-3; nothing at all like a G8.

Avg was around 14K per year out of a possible 18K max that the factory could make.
If the DEALERS don't fuck it up, they will sell out of G8's.

To the people comparing it to the GTO, I think more people would rather have a 4 door. It's just a lot more practical.
I'm looking forward to test driving one. If it looks and drives like I hope I will get one when my Explorer is paid off.

what's with the gto comparisons? the gto was as bland looking as can be. the g8 is aggressive looking and they actually found a way to make the pontiac grill not suck.

I hope it kicks ass, but just worried the G8 and Camaro will flop.

I actually don't think so. The four door will appeal to a much larger group and the different engine options will as well.

I believe it's the 3.6 VVT that a lot of other GM cars are using including the CTS. It's not the direct injection version though.

thats about the idea, but its a new chassis and powertrain
no LS2, no 4 spd auto, no T56
we get L76 w/6spd auto at the moment
manual will come 1/2 model year later (first G8s are 2008.5, 2009.0 should have manual)

So do I. If they gave us the HSV here in the US I'd be all over it as a daily and keep the beater van for snow etc. Then I'd have an awesome daily, an even better toy (08 C6 should be here in about 2 weeks :D), and a snow beater. My dad also wants a ute as it would fit his needs perfectly. He really needs to dump his 96 Bronco. 5.8 w/11 mpg is not cutting it anymore for him.

The UTE is already showing on the 2009 locator as an available model. The only engine choice.....LS3.

Would be a good mildly used purchase, but yeah, new car depreciation is just too damn high on this line of cars.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — With Job 1 officially behind them, the first shipment of 2008 Pontiac G8s is currently floating its way from Australia to the United States. A total of four ships will soon arrive in Northern California's Benicia port, with the first ship expected on January 28. Aboard will be 1,800 new G8 sedans, a 50/50 mix of the 3.6-liter V6 G8 and the 362-horsepower 6.0-liter V8 G8 GT.
The G8 is expected to arrive in Pontiac showrooms by March 1, with West Coast dealers likely to receive their cars first due to the San Francisco Bay Area arrival port. General Motors used the same port for the Australian-built Pontiac GTO that GM imported briefly from 2004-'06. Pontiac says it will have 7,000 G8s on U.S. soil at launch, and expects to reach an annual sales volume of 40,000 cars in a full production year.
Customers won't necessarily have to wait for the G8 of their choice to be configured on the Australian production line, but instead may choose a G8 that is already in transit. Craig Bierley, Pontiac marketing director said, "The dealers and plant are so far apart, orders would take a lot of time. Instead, we've configured cars 11 different ways, and dealers will be able to use a "tagging tool" to choose cars that are already on the boat and reduce the order lead time."
With few available options, the top-of-the-line G8 GT tops out just under $33,000.

I'd hate to say it .. but u have to do it that way not just cause of "wait time" ... but mainly because if dealers know they have a "unique" setup they will charge more and be a-holes about it.
