View Full Version : EGR and supercharger
Who knows how does the EGR system work in combination with a supercharger? Will the manifold pressure go in the exhaust manifold... or does the valve open only at idle so no problems?
Thanks - Stefano

Never thought about it. :hmm: I have EGR with no issues.
No issues is already a good thing...
I have the manuals of Vortech and ATI and no one word about the EGR. I guess it's not an issue, but I don't know.
Please tell me something: why ATI? Power? Price? Vortech looks better to me. OK drill the oil pan... but other than that?

Didn't want to drill the pan, or cut my hood. Install looked harder.
The install for the ATI was pretty easy.
And knowing that the blower was using better oil.
Yes, better oil is true. Vortech needs an oil change every 3000 miles. It's not for the oil ($$$) but you know how it is. No time now, no time nex week, no time next month... Then good bye bearings!
Does the ATI come with new injectors and programmer as the Vortech? Does it work with a FMU? (Don't like it!!)
Is it a complete kit or you need to buy additional stuff?
Mhhh, don't make me change my mind about Vortech! This of the oil is something to think about...
The ATI install looked harder to me. Was it as you did imagine or have you had surprises?

I change my engine oil every 3k. So remembering to change the SC oil isn't an issue.
They do sell a kit with injectors, pump and programming. But I got the tuner kit and added injectors and pump. I already had EDIT.
Plus if you grenade the engine, metal won't get into the SC taking that with it and vice-versa.
The install was actually easier than I thought. Instructions were written pretty good. Everything was bagged up according to what you were installing. No hunting for parts. :)
Took me 13 hours with a friend and AIR tools.

BTW, your name sounds familiar, did you have a Blown V6?
OK let me take a look around. BOth systems look fine: I have to figure out what is better for my 98 LS1.

I think they are good kits. My friend had a Vortech and it made good power.
Vortech's are more bling. Not much to see on an ATI.
Check with Bob at EPP if you go ATI.
Ouch! I've lost the ATI manual! Do you know where I can find it online?
Yes: If you have a Vortech you say "oh, look: a supercharger... mhh there's an engine on it..." like if the engine was an accessory of the blower. (hehe!)
ATI is more hidden.... does it pick up more dirt? and... where is the air filter?
egr is used only at part throttle, so no boost loss.
i personally like the vortech kit, as im piecing together a kit for my 1998 ta right now. only got a handful of small parts left, :)
But the ati air to air intercoolers are nice too. drilling the pan is not too hard,
vortech comes with the ati superdampener, ATI charges you a good chunk of change more for the 8 rib blower setup, and you need to buy the ati superdampener seperate.
vortech has 8 rib standard, as well as spring tensioner

Here you go. I scanned it in. 5 megs ATI Manual (http://209.242.149.145/procharger_owners_manual.pdf)
Well the Air Cleaner is closer to the ground.
THANKS ED!
I'm in the office right now... boss is thinking I'm working at a project... haha! A supercharger is also a projet.
ATI vs. Vortech: there are a lot of similar questions on the web and no clear answer. To me it means both are good:)
Slow: are you going with a used blower? Is it a safe thing to do? The price of a new kit it's not exactly low so it could be a solution:rolleyes:

yes, im going with a used blower, bought it off a member here, headunit only, after he upgraded to a T trim on his car.
It has taken me over a year to piece the parts together, but the cost savings are worth it ;) it has been VERY hard to do, as there are not many of these kits being parted out, ect.
not nearly as easy as the mustang kits i've helped put together with used parts in the past.
Even if my headunit seizes up, i'll still be under the cost of a used complete kit, and under 1/2 the cost of a new kit ; )
Some of my friends with high milage vortechs, 50-60K have been trouble free, so i have no concern over vortech headunit.
I can't say the same for procharger, so thats why i didn't go that route (eventhough i have the plenum/aftercoolers,and ATI superdampener laying around)
Ryan.
Mmhhh! 50-60K trouble free... I like it! This is what I wanted to know: if it was realistic to have so much miles on a Vortech.
Same for the car? Engine? Transmission? Differential? This is my biggest concern: how long lasts the car (assuming I drive "normal").
I'm sure that's a good deal to build up a system with used parts, but where I am right now this is not possible. And buy used part from the US it's a little risky to me. Only the shipping costs an arm and a leg, and if it's a junk... :(
