I have a couple questions reguarding C5s. How much of a performance difference is there between an A4 with 2.73 gears and 3.15 gears, and what is the difference in fuel economy between the two. Second, how big of a handling difference is there between the normal C5 and the Z51 Corvettes? What are your opinions on the magnesium wheels on Vettes?

IS the Z51 the performance handling or the one with the knob that controls the handling, I forget?
I had an 01 with the performance axle and performance suspension. My gas mileage was very good (I cut 24MPG going 140 MPH up a cliff in NM). As for performance, don't expect much out of a A4 (Mine was an A4). My best time was a 13.3 with a 2.0 60'. It handled like it was on rails though.

The Z51 option is the upgraded suspension package. It was only like $400 option. I have an A4 Camaro, so I figure the performance should be about the same.

How much rougher is the ride over the base C5 and how big of a handling difference is there?

I think he meant to add the word "be" in there (ie: "to be a male"), makes a little more sense that way. ;)
Although I agree, transmission choice has little or nothing to with gender, I personally find an 11 second automatic car to be FAR MORE masculine than a 13 second manual one. :p :D

It's not THAT much stiffer, it's not like the early C4 days when the Z51 option gave you a 'bone jarring' ride...it rides a little stiffer as well as handles much better but there is nothing wrong with the handling of a base C5 as well.
And no the Z51 is not the electronic suspension (F55 - Magnetic Ride) with the knob.

Well the gears will make a big difference, especially is hole shot performance. I know the C4 guys that have the 2.59 gears swap to the 3.43 gears and drop up to like a half sec. sometimes in their times (more realistically like .2-.3 sec.). The Z51 is the performance suspension, stiffer, but I don't know how much stiffer on C5s. I had it on my 86 C4 and it handled great. IMO if you are looking for 'stock' straight line performance the vette isn't the best option. It is more of a "performance" car in that it can go fast but also handle very well. The car is actually meant for a road course, ie the independant suspension. It annoys my when people say "my car is faster in the quarter and didn't cost near as much", yeah but put your car on a road course and watch the vette leave you.
