Good evening,

I have an '01 Z28 that now has a new motor (30K miles, now) due to driving through a deep puddle (when a friend who lives in Las Vegas tells you to cut the bottom of you airbox...that stunt doesn't work as well in Louisiana!) Hence I through a rod (so to speak) through the block, but I got a new motor with all kinds of goodies (224 cam, headers, etc).

The point is...I need more power. GM Performance says that ported LS2 heads are an even swap on ANY LS series engine...great...and cheaper than their ported LS6 heads...sounds great to me..but even the dealership has no idea what head gasket I should use.

I haven't torn the car apart myself and the heads are in the mail...

DOES ANYONE here know which gasket to buy?

Any idea of how much power I'll make once I go to Ed Wright in Tulsa and have him dyno tune my ride? Just curious. I'm guessing around 470 bhp (long tubes, high flow cats, KN)

thanks,
Rich

Thats not an unreasonable estimate on pwoer, should get betwen 400-430 RWHP depending on build and cam overlap but 224º intake duration is what a lot of good cams have.

Hope you got new injectors or you will be running static duty cycle under WOT.

sorry i can't help with your gasket problem - but i will tell you not you waste your $$$ on ed wright. sorry - but he's done nothing but shit tunes for ls1 motors... the tuning forum used to be full of complaints about him in the early years.

I had the heads installed and you can feel the difference BIG TIME...even with the old RPM tune (from the Dallas area). I just ordered LS2 head gaskets from GM for their GTO and it worked perfectly.

I raced a young uber-wealthy prince from the United Arab Emirates in his 2007 Z06 and he was only barely walking away from me...even with no tune.

When those cutouts kicked in, that 'vette got way loud!! He's way lighter than I am, so I feel pretty good...he's also got more money in his warchest!! Considering I only paid $24,800 back in 2001 for my loaded Z28, I still think that I got the better deal. It helps going to college for free (thank you, the taxpayers!) for sending me to the Air Force prison in Colorado Springs (Air Force Academy) for allowing me to have the money to buy the car.

Question #1
Who do you reccommend tune the car? I'm 1 to 1.5 hours north of Oklahoma City.

Question #2
How much could my old LS6 (stock) heads with Comp Cam performance valve springs get me on ebay or whereever?

Thanks again,
Rich
