animal GEN4 L92/L76 combo , dont worry about the g8's engine combo!
a mild cam swap away from 500HP

355 HP to 500+ w/ a cam swap?
So what exactly is the difference between that engine...and what is in an LS2 GTO?

Its tuned to run on 87 octane. It has a better heads/intake manifold than the LS2.

Active fuel management and the fact that GM has pretty much phased out the LS2. I wouldn't be surprised if the G8 gets the LS3 next year.

I always preach that you should never buy new cars.
This car may make me bend the rules. :drool2:

The L76 engine is the one that's in the Vortec Max trucks and 2500HDs. I hope it runs better in the G8 than it does in the trucks.

the holden combo described -
L76 Holden intake manifold
This intake allows the use of the new L92 heads in a Camaro/Firebird/GTO/Cadillac. In the trucks you dont HAVE to use this intake as their is enough room under teh hood to clear the L92 intake manifold that comes on the 402hp 6.2L L92 Cadillac truck engine.
If your GEN 3/4 engine (LQ4 6.0, LQ9 6.0, LS2 6.0) has a 4" bore or larger, the L92 heads will fit, and you can this Holden L76 intake manifold to make the heads work.
get the L92 heads, L92 or L76 intake manifold and the appropriate cam and 540-550 hp is easily attainable from 364 cubes(6.0L). The L92 heads flow over 330cfm on the intake and 196 cfm on the exhaust, BONE STOCK AS CAST FOR USE ON THE L92 Cadillac engine. With a VALVE JOB ONLY, they flow at 360+. Just imagine if any sort of porting was performed. You would have more flow than any smallblock GEN 3/4 engine would need. You actually would probably want at least 400 cubes under these :92 heads when ported, just top keep air velocity up for good throttle response and torque production.
LS2 made
502 hp @ 6300 rpm and 465 lb/ft torque at 5100 rpm
LS2 bottom end and block withs tock L92 heads and Holden L76 intake
495 lb/ft at 5000rpm and 547 hp @ 6500 rpm
LS2 bottom end with stock L92 heads and GMPP singleplane carb intake for EFI
453 lb/ft of torque at BOTH 5200rpm AND 5900rpm with 546 hp at 6900 rpm
Grab a GEn 3 LQ4 or LQ9 shortblock, install a 230/236° duration at 0.050" lift cam, L92 heads and L76 intake and 540 hp is available for under $2000.
Here is the complete story of the L76/L92 setup from GMHTP, they can explain it better.
http://www.gmhightechperformance.com/tech/0702gm_ls2_engine_l92_heads/index.html
An LS2 makes aroudn 500 gross hp, thats 70 hp more than the legendary GEn 1E smallblock 350 ZZ430/430hp crate engine with its 210cc intake port Fasburn cylinder heads.
These newer engines sure crank out the ponies.

That does kind of blow if its only going to have 355 HP even in the GT trim.
Shit, LS1 fbodies practically had that much, and weigh 600 pounds less

So it's got an iron block?
Doesn't look bad, but it'd be nicer if they made a coupe version.

L92/L76 combo in the LS2 GTO's are hitting about 415 rwhp with bolt ons (LT's, drop in filter, tune, UDP). With mild cams they are around 470+ rwhp and LG motorsports has hit over 500 rwhp with a cam/bolt ons/L92/L76 combo. I am looking into this package soon as the car still looks stock under the hood, except for the LT's.

6 speed auto or 6 speed manual w/ DoD, should be getting 24+ hwy I would imagine

as far as MPG, I pulled 24.7 mpg on a cross country road trip that was 2000+ miles. Usually cruising at around 85 with the AC on, so if that car has DoD, it should do better than that.

Definitely my next car. Anyone know when the 6 speed manual with be available? I think it was on g8gt.com that I read that the manual wasn't going to be initially available.
