View Full Version : Bullet muffler for SLP Loudmouth

Does anyone know which bullet muffler to get for the SLP loudmouth exhaust? I know they make two different lengths in 3" inlet/outlet. I need to reduce the noise level a bit. I sure the shorter one (16" I think) will fit, but if the longer one (23" I think) will fit, I think that would be a better choice as it should reduce the sound further.

I thought I would check here to see if anyone has experience with this before crawling under the car with a tape measure.

Borla xr-1. Best thing I ever did to my exhaust

WildBill, did you have the bullet muffler before you got the Borla? If so, which reduces the total sound more? I need to reduce sound to stay legal for SCCA auto x competition.

I would imagine the Borla to be quieter than the bullet. I would say the bullet slightly alters the sound more than it muffles it

Thanks for that info, but unfortunately, I'm not doing this to make the sound more to my liking. I have to do it to stay legal, which mean quieting the car down a bit. Can you tell me which one of the two cars is louder overall?

If you want to stay within your noise ordnance limits, you shouldn't even be looking at the Loudmouth. Granted, most cops wouldn't pull you over just for that (I've never been pulled over for my cutout), but they could if they were having a bad day, and rightfully so. If you are set on the Loudmouth, and want the quieter of the two setups mentioned in here, get the Borla XR-1.

Thanks, thats what I needed to know. BTW, I already have a loudmouth and it's not the law I'm worried about. I compete in SCCA auto X and we have noise restrictions at our local events. If you break the limit, they don't count your run and you don't get the rest of your runs unless you do something about the noise. Over this last weekend I had my best run disqualified for breaking the 93 dB limit by 2dB.

Oh, okay...makes perfect sense now. Yeah, try the XR1...I'm pretty sure it'll knock off at least 2 dB over the original Loudmouth setup.

Holy $hit the Borla XR-1 is expensive. Jegs has it listed at $210. For half that I could put an 18" bullet in the I pipe and a 12" bullets in each tail pipe. What makes Borla so proud a that thing? Just looks like a glorified glass pack to me.

BTW, with that oval shape, how well does it fit in the I pipe? Is there still good clearance around it?

Borla is synonymous with expensive...if you go ahead and equate those two things in your head, you should be set.

As for the clearance issue, I really have no idea...

WildBill, can you comment on the clearance? Maybe a picture?

Thanks

Check Borla's website. They have it for $117. I plan to get one from them.

Thanks, but I bought the bullet for $36.99. For $117, I can still but 2 more bullets if I need them.

I installed the bullet yesterday and I think it will be quiet enough now. And I like the sound better than before. No more drone!. The 18" bullet was a bit more difficult to fit than the 12 would have been, but it works great.

After my MAcs and cam install the LM is too loud, I am thinking of getting the Borla myself, my car has the Eibach Sportlin how much clearance is your car, my SFC's are about 3 in. from the ground.....
