is it better to re-use the stock pushrods or get hardened pushrods, ive heard the stock will bend but the hardened could pierce a piston, how true is this? i will be running the TR230/224 cam.

If your getting and aftermarket cam and springs than its recomended to do hardened pushrods as well. I hate to admit this, but twice Ive done a 3rd to 2nd shift, fully engaging the clutch but quick to take it back out of gear, and never had a problem.
TR230 cam, comp 918 springs, TR hardened pushrods

hardened pushrods dont pierce the piston, what they do is keep the vavle open so it makes contact with the piston, and erego you have a bent vavle. bent pushrods are easier to replace then bent vavles ;). i went with TR hardened pushrods with my tr230 and manley springs.

That's what I heard before. It's better to have a bent pushrod than a bent valve. So why does everyone keep buying hardend pushrods? I'm still undecided what to get when I buy my cam.

it all depends on what you want.
Yes there "maybe" some protection by not getting hardend PRs.
but a big cam at high rpms are more than the stock prs can't take it and they start to deflect or bend out of shape ever so slightly, at that point you are not getting all of the valve lift you should be getting. Now on some cars this may not be a biggie, on others they want all that they can get.....
Hot rodding had a great wirte up in the Jan 2004 volume 44.. The were interviewing the head guy at Comp cams. Nice reading if you can find it. :D

Heres the deal. When a pushrod bends, that is because it wasnt strong enough to handle the stress of whatever condition you caused to make it happen.
Using the logic of keeping the weak stock pushrods because it will save your valves is ludicrous logic.
That would be like saying I dont want to put oil in my engnine because if I do and I blow a valve seal, I'll get smoke coming out of my tailpipes.
The bent pushrod is a condition of a weak pushrod. Putting a stronger pushrod isnt going to break a valve any easier than if you had the stock valves in the engine. Even if you overrevved and you did it so severely that you could damage a valve, you would also damage the pushrod anyway.
As for the Manley pushrods, those are the exact same ones I have in my car. A buddy of mine ordered new Comp pushrods, and I couldnt tell a difference between the two. My guess is, theyre probably all made by the same company or to the same specs.

I agree 100% I went with the Manleys as well.
I did forget to put the "may" add protection in my post.... I just edited it.

i would not leave stock pushrods in my car with a big cam
i have 30k miles on mine and i have never had any valve train problems

You can get the Manley's for $95 and too cheap not to get them.
