I'm installing my jet hot's next week, and was wondering if anyone could give me some tips to save time and/or make my job easier. I have the luxury of using a 4 post lift to get the car up and work on, but what are some of the tricks of the trade?
AIR system and EGR are off. I thought I remember someone mentioning the Steering Wheel Shaft?

Any good write-ups you guys know about, that you can share with me? I'd appreciate all info.

Thanks.

Check the passenger side heater box before you snug everything up. My last primary on my new batch of Jet Hot's was dang close to it. I banged on the primary a bit and slapped a bunch of foil tape on the box with the header OFF so I could get to it.

Might have to grind down half of the motor tab on the drivers side. You'll see it and run into IF you have problems.

Remove the passenger side coil pack. The last bolt is a SOB. I'd go with a stubby 10m from underneath the car or a socket on top and just jam the heater hose over.

A ratcheting 10m wrench is a must.

A dremel w/ a steel cutting bit (looks like a drill bit) may be needed on the driver's side k-member.

IF THE HEADER BOLTS DO NOT WANT TO BE HAND TIGHTENED MORE THAN A COUPLE TURNS... STOP AND REPOSITION THE HEADER!!!!!

I cross threaded not one but TWO fuggen header bolts. Aluminum is teh sucketh.

Oh and enjoy working on the install :D

I just installed mine with a few buddies this past weekend... other than what was already said here I have this advice:

Rather than grinding away at the tab on the block for the driver's side (assuming you have any trouble getting the header in), just disconnect the steering linkage... it's all of two bolts and disconnects literally in seconds.

Make sure you test fit all your components BEFORE going for the install. It would certainly suck to get everything bolted up only to find out that the y-pipe doesn't fit for some reason.

Have a sawzall and dremel handy as both those tools were very useful in my install.

Also, check all of your plug wires before installing! One of my wires were messed up, so I had to go out to the parts store in the middle of the install and pick up some new plug wires...

Have some blocks of wood so you can get the car jacked up high enough... you should have your car on the last notch of the jackstands. And when you have the car that high, make absolutely sure it is stable before getting under it! Putting some extra ramps w/ blocks of wood on them under the tires will help in making sure that if for some reason the jackstands do fail, the car won't fall but an inch or two.

And make sure you have lots of beer and food for anyone who's gonna shed some skin off their hands and arms for the sake of your install! :D

i didn see this peice of info yet ... i dunno if its still needed w/ the newer batches (i have the very first batch) ... but when i installed mine, i had to remove the oil diverter plate on the dr side to get the header to slide in. Once that plate is out, the header slid in easily.

The plate is right above the oil filter, and is held in w/ 2 bolts. Watch for oil dripping out when u remove it tho

Thanks again everyone. I'll post soundclips of the borla with/without cutout before and after the headers as soon as I'm done and figure out how to separate sound from video's.

just slide the linkage of the stearing column out of the way and test fit the driver side header in place and mark where you will need to grind the k-member other than that it is fairly simple

Ran into a holdup or three and haven't done them yet.
Got into the middle of an engine detailing festival and never got it over to my buddies in time...and also, my stage 8 bolts never showed up in time. On the bright side, I just found out what I'm getting for my tax return and am checking on some Stage 3 LS6 heads and a bunch of other goodies:devil: I'll make sure to post as soon as they're in:cool:
