View Full Version : 180 shot - Dare I?

On stock pistons and rods?
When I was on the dyno the other day I ran a 50 shot and a 100 shot just shaking the system out but the N2O cam w/ upgraded valvetrain seems to really seems to like the hose (ie a 50 shot is a 60 HP to the wheels). My question is, I was running a 135 shot before maxing out the injectors but now that has been fixed. My N2O system maxs at 180. Given the above info I would think a 180 would be over 200 HP to the wheels. Somethings gonna break uh? I am thinking 125~135 is the most I dare.
Thoughts?

Well, judging by your mods, you have the right fuel setup, so I doubt you would accidently run lean and blow the engine, however I dont see that driveshaft nor the rear end taking that much abuse. So I would say dont do it. :)

I did it for 2 years running a 175 shot open solinoid. Picked up 184 rwhp from the shot. Total numbers were 565/657 stock fuel system with mms 229 cam and hooker lt headers, tune was stock too and tranny and rear end.

I would test it all out nice and slow on a dyno. If you are going to run that much of a shot, might look into some race gas for those "special" ocassions. If I remember right, you already pull 2* of timing for your 135 shot?? Might pull some more timing and get your a/f ratio around 11..5 or so. Just to be on the safe side. Also, make damn sure your injectors aren't maxed out with that big of a shot. I know you have new injectors, but always look at everything. :D
P.S. I personally wouldn't spray more then a 150 shot (~160 on your car probably)

the same thing has been bothering me... but I did something today about it... my wallet does not like me today.

Yeah I am familiar with that! I am at over $1500 with the wideband, scanner, and tuner.
Pay to play I guess

You have the ability to tune it in correctly and the tranny for it. What is your expected total power output on the 180/200 shot? Sub 500 you should be fine, but there is ALWAYS the chance of internal failure of course. Start pushing 500 and I'd be expecting future damage.

I went more than that.
I started with making a deal for h/c, new injectors, LTs , true-duals, and found a deal on a LS6 intake manifold with the whole TNT-DP... so I went for all this.
This is already a lot of $.
Lately, I've been thinking that the rear-end would let me stranded... so that was also taken care of.
Then, I was also thinking that 450 RWHP NA + DP on stock internals is pushing it... so I called ARE and got a an adjustment on my quote... I'm going forged internals... and since going forged internals, might as well go with a stroker.
So I end up with a 383 forged internals... I should be around 480-500 RWHP NA... and I won't be afraid anymore of putting the 300 RWHP this year anymore from the DP... should be nice... goal = getting in the 10s with my R-compounds.

:rotfl: Funny how you can justify it to yourself. Heads, forged internals, rear is on my list for next year too

NA I dynoed low a 340 but I was rich as a pig. On a 50 shot I dynoed 405. I am guessing more like 360 NA and 415 on a 50 shot about 460+ on a 100 shot. I best just stay below a 125 shot. At least till I have another daily driver ;)

Probably a wise plan. :D

I ran a 200 shot on my old car for months without a problem. The car was completely stock with the exception of the TNT kit and a Borla Catback. The car made right at 500rwhp and I ran proabably 150 bottles through it without a problem and that was on stock tuning. I was brave and really wouldn't recommend it to anyone else unless you have the proper equipment and a nitrous tune as well as colder plugs. It is much better to be safe than sorry.

My thoughts...
An 12 second car that runs is better than an 11 second car that's in the garage. ;)

Your right!
Plus, since Mighty Mouse is in my car club with 660 HP on pump gas (turbo) I do not think there is any danger of me beating him this year.

It's your call, but just keep this in mind.
I'm assuming you mean a 180flywheel hp hit. A NX 150 hit is ~170 flywheel hp. A TNT 150 hit is well over a 170flywheel hp hit (considering it's really like 170rwhp :o )
Go for it.
