Ever since I installed the long tubes, I've noticed a nasty rattle in the dash. It sounds like it's coming from behind the radio/instrument cluster...

I've removed the framing of the dash, and couldn't locate anything that might be the cause, and I'm wondering how hard the instrument cluster itself is to loosen so I could have a look back behind it...

Many "dash area" rattles can seem to come from that area, but really be associated with parts rubbing on the firewall like hoods. You kinda answered it for yourself "ever since I installed the long tubes"

Yeah, when I did my exhaust on the Formula, I get a bad rattle between 1,000 and 1,700 RPM. The rattle is near the gear selector (A4) and the middle cup holder.

I located 'one' of my dash rattles. It was the throttle cable/cruise control cable rattling on the underside of the cowl, making it sound like it was coming from the dash.

My brother had a dash rattle, after tightening his headerbolts, it disappeared. I doubt it's actually part of the dash, it's probably under the hood.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure it's in the dash itself.. I've checked underneath to see if it's a heat shield, no luck.. I'm going to get my cat-back and y-pipe flanged, maybe that'll tighten that up, and see if that that clears any of the rattle up or not.. if not, I might take the dash apart again.

I should add that I'm not certain it started when the long tubes went in, or that's about when I first started noticing the rattle.

Thanks.

might want to check your heatshields underneath.. with longtubes generally comes either duals or an ORY... which involves deeper tones, more resonance, and those plates are held on by generally a single tiny screw and are thin and flexible...

I was out poking around under the hood, and it looks like we never put the throttle cables back in the clip/bracket after the header install... I'll see if putting that back in place cleared anything up tomorrow.

I've come to live with all my rattles. Most of mine come from the A4 shifter area. I may be getting a new knob and doing a shift boot mod to stop the rattles.:)

Mine is solved - it was the throttle cables... now that they're back in the clip, my rattle is gone... That was driving me nuts. :D

hmm mine is doing it horribly too, I might check the cables to see if thats whats wrong. Crap pisses me off to no end to have the "dash" make so many noises.
