Well, I love my car, but ever since i had the duals put on i got an annoying ass rattle from the center dash area. Well, I lived with it for probably 6 months or so, but I just couldnt take it any more. Cranking the tunes is fine when you are by yourself, but screaming over the rattles to talk to my girl was just gettin fuckin old. Anyway, it was a simple surgery, but the results were amazing.
First, start by moving the shifter back to give you more room to work. This step is obviously only for the A4, dont know if there are issues with the M6, but who really cares? A4>M6 anyway ;)

Next, remove the trim peice surrounding the HU and HVAC controls. Peice is held in by 4 plastic clips, one at each corner. Find a place to get a decent grip, I started at the botton edge and gently ;) pull the peice off

Next, Using a small socket and extension remove the 5 7mm bolts holding in the HVAC controls and HU.

now cut 4 strips ~6"x1" of our ultra fine sound deadening material (read: $.72 felt from the home depot)

Next, place the strips, 2 per side (overlapping) along the sides of the trim. hold them and place while you reinstall the controls and HU. It may be a little difficult to get the screw back through the felt, you can cut tiny slits if you like, but i just rammed them through. Bolt controls and HU back up.

Next, reinstall the trim peice. To do this you will have to cut small holes in your ultra fine sound deadening material for the two posts in the middle of the trim peice to slide back into their happy little homes (you'll see what im talking about when you get there).
And you are done. 15 minutes of work and $.72 and you know have a nice rattle free BMW quality interior to enjoy. Well, not really, but its a whole hell of a lot less annoying.
