My car won't start. The water pump was leaking and the opti is probably toast, but my question is could the bad opti cause the car to not start at all (i.e. no sputters or anything, just the starter noise)? When a test light was hooked up to a plug wire, it lit. What gives? Should I be looking further than the opti/water pump (already being replaced)? Thanks.

A opti can stop the car from starting. If you are getting spark it could be your fuel pump. You should be able to hear it when you put the key in the on position. Get someone to do that while you get underneath the rear of the car and listen.

Yea I can hear the fuel pump running for the 2 seconds after you turn the key...any other thoughts? I should probably check my plugs too right?

In that case, I guess I should return the optical sensor/spinnie slotted wheel internal opti piece that autozone sold me and order the whole real deal from Jason Cromer, huh? Anybody know how long does he take to ship? Thanks.
