1992 BMW 325is

Runs great, but paint is not the best. Was involved in a minor fender bender sometime in it’s life. Car is in otherwise good condition. Odometer shows 86k+ miles, but title says ‘not actual’. I would guess it has 184k on it. It does have a clear title.

I just traded for it, but just don’t need it.

• 6 cylinder
• 5 speed manual
• Black Paint
• Black Leather.
• Power Sunroof
• Fog Lights
• Dual heated, manual, leather seats. No tears, but showing their age.
• Split, fold-down rear seats
• Power Mirrors
• Dual Climate zone HVAC
• Aftermarket Pioneer Stereo, wired for amp / sub.
• PS, PB, Tilt, PW
• On-Board Computer
• 4 Wheel Discs.
• Tinted windows
• M3 Wheels
• Tires still have some life in them.
• Carpet has one bad spot in it under the driver’s foot
• Some new parts: DS Headlight / turn signal assy., Hood Emblem, RV Mirror, Radiator, Coolant Level Sensor, Front A-Arm Bushings.

Would make someone a great daily driver. More pictures are available upon request.

Well, I just ran a CARFAX on it and it seems that the car actually has 184k+ miles on it.

http://www.carfax.com/cfm/FSBO.cfm?report=CFX000013920760

So I guess the price just became even more negotiable.

My loss for not doing this before I traded the guy....it's still a good car though.

After further review of the CARFAX report, I’m going to adjust the mileage down somewhat. Keep in mind, this car has an electrical 6 digit odometer, not the old style mechanical type.

The last “correct” mileage was listed on 07/08/1996 at 29,964 miles. Then, no other mileage was listed until the car was taken into a Service Facility in California, almost exactly 5 years later, on 07/10/2001. There is no way to document how much, if any the car was driven in these five years.

Obviously there seemed to a problem with the ECM, as noted by the comment “Electrical System Serviced”, and the mileage was noted at “100,000” miles. I believe that since there was a problem with the ECM / Odometer, this mileage was arbitrary and assumed. The reason I say this, is that the very next day, 07/10/2001, the car was sold at auction with the odometer reading “47,240” miles.

Now, either they were just guessing, OR they were able to get the reading out of the old ECM, but because the ECM had been changed, the title was still required to be listed as “INCONSISTENT ODOMETER READING”.

Note that NO WHERE in the CARFAX report is the mileage ever listed at over 100,000 miles, except at the Service Facility.

So, what I have is either a car with the actual 84,026 miles as currently shown on the odometer, or at most the car has 184,026 minus the (arbitrary or actual) 47,240 miles (shown after the servicing of the electrical system) for a maximum of 136,786 miles. Obviously, much better than the 184,026 guess I made.

Now I know that none of this can be proven and it certainly doesn’t change the fact that the title is listed with a “Not Actual” flag, but I feel that it is much closer to what I see in the car’s condition and what can be argued with the CARFAX report.

So it’s got either 84,026 miles or at most, 136,786 miles on it.

Either way, I really need to move this car…I might consider a four wheeler in partial trade.
