Heres some stupid questions for you guys but ive got to learn somehow. Ive got a '98 Camaro its just a 3.8 V6 car, what I would like to know is how do I properly change the transmission fluid? Do I just pull the pan and let it fall or is there more to it, I plan on changing the filter as well. Any advice I will appreciate all coments.

Thanks

Joey

Most people do a simple pan drop change. If you feel you need more than that you can find procedures for doing a complete flush. I blieve Blacker has posted this process before.

Yeah, for a full flush you'd probably need to take it to a shop...unless you have a fluid exchanger in your garage:D I'd be interested in finding a way to do it without one, though, if someone's done it.

For a "drop the pan" fluid change you simply - you guessed it: drop the pan. Just take out all but the bolts on the front of the pan, then loosen them until the fluid comes out. The filter should just pull out (assuming we have the same tranny) and the new one pushes in. Installation is reverse of removal;)

My advice to you on this:

Leave the back bolts in the pan and only remove the front bolts. Slowly tip the pan down to start draining the fluid. When you get as much removed that way, remove the last of the bolts and drop the whole pan.

Yank the filter out, put the new filter in and button everything back up

Yes a good name brand non synthetic fluid
