I don't know the specs on the cam in my new '83 chevy pickup.

It has a new Gm Goodwrench 350 in it.
THe prior owner put a different...but still very mild....cam in it.

What should the timing be set at.

It ran weird before i checked the timing and found it at like 12-14 degrees advanced. YIKES!

I put it down to 6 degrees advanced(that's about stock right?) and it is ALOT better..but i'm thinking even lower would be better?

WHat should the timing be set at when a bigger cam has been installed? anything different than stock? I would think so.

Any help is appreciated....Thanks!

if you have no specs on the cam, you'd have to go through mic'ing it, probably using a degree wheel to see what you have.

12-14 degrees base timing on a SBC is for old camel hump and other passé technology heads that don't burn in the combustion chamber fast.

Stock on the 80's application 4bbl and TPI applications in passenger cars was usually 6 d BTDC, you're right.

I woulda posted this in Muscle Car, Domestics & Imports
