even after a base tune after my heads/cam install, sometimes while looking under the hood while its running my eyes water bad, and also standing outside the car next to it. does that mean im still running extremely rich? i have no cats, and before the cam swap it wasnt anywhere near this bad. will a dyno tune take care of the problem, or should it have been taken care of with the intial base tune? thanks.

You answered your own question..
No cats and cam swap
The cam swap is what made it worse.. What LSA is your cam?

224/224 112 lsa cam. no nitrous. i thought a base tune would de richen it though. maybe its just for dyno tuning that helps it?

It's difficult to tell unless you check your A/F ratio with a wideband. I have LT's with no cats and mine smells like it's running rich but my A/F ratio is 12.9:1 I actually love the smell. It's that muscle car smell.
what dropkick said, you'll need to get your A/F on a wideband. what kind of "basic" tune was done?

Sounds like a leaky exhaust to me. Nothing should be coming from under your hood.

An exhaust leak should be able to be heard.
As far as the gas smell. You have no cats. If you don't want that smell, put cats on.
Also, everyones nose and body reacts differently to things. You may be about to die, and I may think nothing is wrong.
Without an A/F measurement we really can't tell you too much

Yes but it is a heads/cam/exhaust car. It is a little noisier than normal to begin with and he is probably used to the way it sounds now and may not notice small leaks. He has nothing to compare it to.

yes, i know i have an exhuast leak coming from both the left and right parts of the y pipe. i have a band clamp on it, but it still lets a considerable amount of exhuast out from under the car. i was just wondering if it was enought to make my eyes water like those top fuel guys?
also, the base tune that was done was basically idle stuff, PE charts, just bout everything i guess but dyno tuning.
- Clamps: Invest in some good band clamps (http://ourworld.cs.com/jrpws6/mod+guide/band+clamp.jpg); they can be had from a variety of sponsors or found at your local parts store. U-bolt clamps are pieces of shit. Another option you have is to flange (http://ourworld.cs.com/jrpws6/parts/DSC00125.JPG) your system.
-If you’re using clamps and are still having exhaust leaks try buying some aluminum tape that can be found at Lowes or home depot. Wrap the tape around the collector; whether header or Y pipe, for thicker area for the clamp to seal up too.

ya, when i take them off, they will probably have a small krinkle in it from where it clamped down over the y pipe, but with 70 foot lbs of tq, it should be like brand new, especially since i just had them for less then 2 weeks.
aight, just pm when there ready.
