This is the official Holden factory backed team for the V8 Supercar Championship Series. For those who don't know, this series is to Australians what NASCAR is to the US (no oval track racing though). It is Australia's premiere and most widely supported/recognized motorsport category.
HRT has a very good record in this series. Their championship results since 1996 are...
1996 1 & 4 C.Lowndes/P.Brock
1997 4 & 6 G.Murphy/P.Brock
1998 1 & 3 C.Lowndes/M.Skaife
1999 1 & 3 C.Lowndes/M.Skaife
2000 1 & 3 M.Skaife/C.Lowndes
2001 1 & 3 M.Skaife/J.Bright
2002 1 & 4 M.Skaife/J.Bright
2003 3 & 9 M.Skaife/T.Kelly
Ford driver Marcos Ambrose won the championship in 2003 (13 rounds with some being multi-race rounds) followed by 3 Holdens. There were 4 Fords and 6 Holdens in the top 10 and approx. 30-35 cars competing at each round all over Australia and New Zealand.
It is a 2 make series based on the 2 highest selling models in Australia, the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore. This is a strict control category running injected V8 5.0L Ford and Chev engines. They only parts they really share with the road cars are the body panels. They run purpose built chassis, driveline, supsension, brakes, aero kit, etc.
Just a few details...
Engine: 5.0L fuel-injected V8 600-630 hp (limited to 7500rpm)
Trans.: Hollinger 6 speed (fixed ratios for trans/diff at each track)
Minimum Weight: 1355kg/2980lb (without driver)
Brakes: Front 370mm/14.6" 6 piston, Rear 340mm/13.4" 4 piston
Wheels: 17 x 11" (running Dunlop control tyre)
Another of the Holden teams (Castrol Perkins Racing)
