Is this worth it? I don't have a lot of money. Actually I am damn near broke. But I want more mods. I don't really have the money for aftermarket heads right now, but I could get together money to have my stock ones ported. I am gonna put a cam in very soon. So I would like to have so more flow.
If this is a good idea, then how much should I get them ported. I am not 100% sure of the cam specs, but I am gonna be running a pretty aggressive cam with a wet nitrous set up.
What should I do?
Thanks
depends on who does the porting. i've seen some great home ported heads. if you can find a local porter who knows what there doing and you can get a good price i'd say go for it. just get them ported and out fitted with new vavles and springs.
or you can hold off and save up some more money and pick up some PP 5.3 or 5.7 heads, those run about 1200 bucks for 99+ heads and 995 for 97-98 5.7's. there S2 ported and come complete with dual springs.
what kind of cams are you looking at and what are your current mods.

With the exception of the new AFR heads, which arent even available yet, ALL aftermarket heads are really stock GM heads that someone modified. Having your original heads ported and put back on your car is no different than ordering a set from a sponsor.
However, my advice to you, is you need to get your priorities in order. If you are as broke as you say, spending money on your car should be the last thing you are considering.

ported heads are expensive -headers give a nice gain for quite a bit less- but as was said above don't stretch yourself too thin to mod a car- it can be addictive and put you in a hole

My current mods are Spec clutch & flywheel, b&m ripper, no cats, flowmaster muffler, SLP lid.
Plans: SFCs, shocks/springs, heads, cam, nitrous, headers, 9" rear end, slicks.
About money, I am not going without food or anything. Just broke after I pay my bills.

you've got a lot on the list-heads and cam is gonna be $3000- new rearend $2500- headers $600- suspension$600 -start by making priorities as to where you want to begin- i'd do shocks and springs first then headers then heads and cam

If your gonna run nitrous i`d make sure you have the cash for a rebuilt shortblock incase somthing lets loose. A nitrous backfire can tear stuff up.:( IMO have your heads ported run a healthy cam and you`ll have enough power to keep you happy untill you can spring for the short block if somthing happens with the nitrous.:)
