Ive got the chance to snag a GTO for well below the MSRP. Im new to the forums, and the world of LS1's. I know a little about the car and all but i don't know much about the LS1. I hear that the LS2 is going to be in the GTO's more than likely for 05'. Could anyone shed some light on this for me. Id like to know if you guys think the GTO is worth it and why or why not.

Yes the 05 GTO will more than likely have the LS2, if you can wait for an 05 then do it. But there isn't nothing wrong with an LS1 either, except that it has 50 hp less than the LS2. For 05 there will be a Ram Air packaged GTO too.
As to reasons a GTO would be worth it. 13's for a coupe with capability to carry 4 people, and you won't see 20 of them a day. You probably won't see F-Body like 1/4 mile times from an LS1 powered GTO, though an LS2 or LS6 powered GTO might be as good as an F-Body or better in the 1/4 mi.

An LS2 powerd GTO will post 12 sec 1/4's. There are drivers pulling 13.1's on GTO's now with no mods.
As to the original poster, what are you looking to get? The GTO offers sports car performance and handling, with a fantastic build and feel that the fbody doesnt have. It seats 4 a lot easier then the Fbody. The GTO next year will come with an LS2 and dual side, dual exhaust. It will also have scoops, which IMO look like crap. If your looking for a great daily driver with awesome power and handling, and for thousands less then an M3, get a GTO. Dont take my word for it, take one out on a test drive. The 05's should be here around November, so if you cant wait that long, but I sugest you take a 04 GTO out for a ride and see how that feels.
If you are looking for a 1/4 barn burner and tear up the track and street, and room and quality arent a big concern, stay with your fbody.

Well i do want the room. I love the interior of the GTO. Ive only seen high 13's in the 1/4 times. If you have any links to people running faster that would go awesome to take a look at. Ive seen one run 11's with N02. But thats about all ive seen other than 13.8's

yes, if you can by any means get the GTO as discount price, then do so. They are a really great car, and as stated before, fit and finish are way above the f-body, and maybe any GM car that is. Go test drive one, and poke around all over, I did, and that is what sold me on a GTO. I'm getting an 05 though. I love this car, my other choice was an Infiniti G35 coupe, but after the test drive in the GTO, I've got to have the "American Muscle V-8".

the 04 GTO is nice the 05 should be better- its about 4k more than the current Mach1 but way better build quality and design quality- the trunk is kinda small tho

below sea level? NikkiVee, a member here pulled 13.3's with his car, not to mention other drivers taking out the spare and some other weight loss items and running 13.1 on stock tires.

In a stock GTO? I did get to ride in one over the weekend and the car did feel pretty quick, but I didn't think the GTO had quite that much potential.

NikkiVee had posted the timeslips on his run, some people here called BS, he said the time slips don't lie, I believe him, from what I have read about NikkiVee, he's a really good driver, and can shift like a mofo. Anyway, I'm not sure if the timeslips he posted are still here, but I remember them, and it was stock car, with stock tires, I think he only removed the jack and spare, not sure about that, but I think that is what he did. No fender rolling, cutting up the car and that kind of stuff.

see, this is what I dont get. Everyone said that we will wait till we get some good drivers to drive the GTO before we pass any judgement on the GTO, and now that some people have hit low 13's on a stock car, they call bs and throw it back in there face because there is no way the GTO can be that fast.... but why can't it?

Most of the timeslips on the GTO's I heard have been 13.8 - 14.2. The drivers might not have been that good but the general numbers that most GTO owners are putting down seem to be in the high 13's. I know I don't mind hearing that with good drivers they're running low 13's practically stock.

I have seen many different times also, ranging from low 13s to 14s, most in the mid 13s. I think that it mostly comes down to who is the better driver.
