View Full Version : Clutch pedal doesn't always come all the way out?

Sometimes if I slip the clutch too much, the pedal doesn't come all the way out immediately like normal. This usually happens in stop and go traffic going up a hill. Basically, if I rev to high and let the clutch out too slow, there is a point where the pedal stays about 1/2 way up and my foot is totally off it. It will finally come totally out after a second or two, but as I drive for like the next 1/2 hour the pedal is very soft. Any reason why this happens? Do I just suck as driving a manual?
Also, this happened this afternoon again, but as I continued to drive, a few minutes down the road, there was a large snap/pop noise that came from above the clutch pedal area, above the plastic/foam barier above the pedals. The pedal continued to work fine, but when I just start to press down on the pedal, it feels a little loose, but once I get it like 1/2" down, it feels fine. It almost sounded like a spring broke and now the top part of the swing of the pedal is loose.
Sorry for the long post, but I am just confused! Any help would be great!!!:badpost:

Well you have two seperate issues here.
1.pedal gets soft after slipping the clutch.
I have never had to, but many people have had to do the drill mod, which removes a restriction in the line to let the clutch engage/disengage faster
2. You hit this one on the head.......
Your return spring broke.
You can drive it like it is, some have reported driving it like that for over 20K. But seeing you have that "warranty" thing;)
I would take it in :D

Is it possible for me to just replace the return spring? I don't trust the dealer near me...they couldn't even fix the auto-down module in my car! Where is the spring located? Is it just above that plastic/foam panel? Maybe I'll get under there this weekend and look for it. Is there any problem with driving with it broken for a little bit?

Just searched a few sites and ended up ordering a replacement spring from Gene at FredBeans for $1 less than gmpartsdirect. So going to the dealer would have saved me $26.95, but I don't trust them AT ALL! Complete idiots there! I had to spend my own money to replace the auto down module because they tried to fix it twice and couldn't...they first replaced the switch in the door and the tech that put it in didn't even check to see if it was working...I tested it in the parking lot and when it didn't work, the service manager said "well, we'll order another switch" dispite me saying...IT ISN'T THE SWITCH!!! THERE IS A SEPERATE MODULE!!! So I have never returned to the dealership. And they treated me like crap...I guess they have no respect for a 21 year old who purchased a $38k sports car with all his own money...
Regardless, I don't like dealerships now and would only go there for a major repair that is too expensive or I can't fix on my own...so $26.95 it is and if it breaks again, I probably won't fix it again...thanks for the help killer

Now wait a minute you are getting a extended Warranty.....
but don't want the dealership to touch your girl........:uhok:
:jk:
I have not had to replace that spring, but I hear it is a pita to do.
Yes it is under that said pnl.
And I have heard of people driving a long time with out changing it. So you should be ok. :)

Our posts crossed.
Ok Glad you were able to get the info.
I have a challenge for you:)
I know you did a nice write up on the fog lights.
SO do one for the return spring with good pics that we can post on the board as Tech help. :D

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about not trusting the deal and getting an extended warranty! Basically, I would only be getting the warranty if the engine blew up or the tranny fell out or something. I will definately get the warranty if I know I can get my money back if I don't have any claims. Anyway, if I did need to take it in for repair, I would find a different one than my local one...they just suck! I also ripped them a new one on the latest evaluation I was sent from Pontiac:D
Regarding the pics and write up, I would be happy to provide it for the developing tech sections here at ls2.com! I found it funny that there wasn't one on either of the other sites when I searched. So yes, I accept your challenge!
Also killer, you need an AIM screen name! What is up with just a Yahoo IM one? Crazy talk!;)
