If you have the money and time, V1 has really impressed me.
Not so much money or want it NOW, Passport 8500 is a good performer.
Little money? I would think the Bels, but perhaps someone else could vouch for them since I've not used one but only heard opinions.

If money is no object then I would suggest a Valentine 1. If not that then a Passport 8500.

I'm happy with my 8500... I could care less WHERE that instant laser hit comes from, or the 6-bar Ka instant hit.. when it happens, I know, and can slow down. (And i saved $100).

My recomendation would be a V1, we have two and love them! I was considering purchasing another one for our other cars and found quite a few on ebay. You might look there, you can always send them in to have them updated.

if you are serious about getting one, I would recommend one of the ones above, either the V1 or 8500. I have the rocky mountain radar RMR-C212. It also works pretty good, although I think the V1 picks up the signal a bit farther away.
Don't waste your money with any of the cheaper ones.

I've had a V1 for quite a while, and it works very well, but it is expensive. My buddies that have gone for a ride in my car have all been impressed, and it has saved my ass many times. The arrows are more helpful than you would think...

I think it goes for around 300, but Ultimate electronics will probably have it on sale sometime this spring. I almost bought one last year. I think I am going with the V1 though.

I have a V1, had it for about 3 years now and no tickets due to radar. Even had an off duty sheriff call and have a cop set up to bust me cause I flew by him on the interstate. I picked up the signal about a mile away and cop couldn't do anything to me.
Everytime it is asks the choices seem to always come down to the V1 or Passport 8500. I think there is about a $100 difference in the 2. Just do some research and see which you think would serve you better.
Just remember that the V1 can be upgraded at any time for only $200 and you get a brand new unit. Plus you get the arrows, and bogey counter, and I would say one of the best ranges on the market.
I can't speak for the passport cause I've never even seen one used by anyone I know or have met.
My friend had a Bel and it was ok at best.

I have the Bel 985 and I really like it. if there is one drawback is that the volume does not go up very loud. you have to watch the display when the tops are out and the radio is up
...it has saved my ass several times though so i definitely give it a :2thumbs:

I have had a Passport 8500 for 2 years.
I've been completely satisfied with it's performance.
