View Full Version : Rim size for a 69 maro?
I am looking at getting a set of American Racing Torque Thrust II for my 69 camaro. I do realize that everyone has a set of these on their car but I love them. They are sweet. Anyone know what I need to order? Offset? I want 17" but what is the widest I can go. 17x8? 17x9.5? My stockers can rub on the frame when turned towards the end of throw distance so I would imagine that a 17x9 would give me limited steering. Yes no? I have no idea what an offset is or what size I need. I dont do tires and rims much.
Thanks :D

i worked for a muscle car dealer in Lone Grove Oklahoma... Redline Autosports ... www.RedlineAutosports.com ....before i moved back to Pennsylvania, the owner recieved a 69 with 17 inch polished torque thrusts....looked awesome....i believe they were only 8 inch wide and backspacing....i cant quite remember how to calculate that....but im sure if you either directly contacted American Racing, or one of our fine sponsors....im sure they'd be glad to help you out....also....check out your local Camaro club for someone that already has or had something similiar to your application

I had a 67 camaro, and a 68 camaro, and on both I put the American Racing TT II's on there, the same ones you want. I do know the 69 does have slightly larger wheel wells, and here is what I had on my two cars, with NO rubbing at all......
Front-- 17x8 4 1/8 backspacing
Rear- 17x9.5 4 1/4 backspacing
and both those could turn full cock and no problems. I went smaller in front as I feel it gives the cars a better look.........and i got complements wherever I went.....good luck, let me know if you have any questions, ill be glad to ansewr them as I did TONS of measuring before ordering mine.........:)

Fronts I went with 17x8's with 4.75 bs, tires are 245/45's. Rears are 17x9.5 with 5.5 bs, tires are 275/40's. You should always double check your measurements before ordering. Turning is fine. Here is an interesting article on measuring...
