I just had a 3" cutout welded in my I-pipe and I bought a QTEC electric cutout to compliment it.

I remember reading a while back that a bead of RTV sealant is needed to properly seal the butterfly and keep (help prevent) it from leaking. I did some searching but didn't find anything specific enough concerning this. Does anyone have pictures showing how to do this or can anyone explain exactly what I need to do? I would like to get this done before installing it.

Also, should I cut off the bolts welded on and replace them with longer ones or are teh ones already on it good enough to hold it? It is a Flowtech 3"cutout.

Any other tips to consider for the install/use of this? The sale rep told me to make sure there is at least 1" between the floorboard and the motor on the QTEC so when the muffler moves, it won't hit causing damage to the motor. I haven't heard that before.

I have a McCord MPP2 and the bolts are long enough to mount the power plate. I recently put some RTV on my butterfly of my cutout, but stupid me closed the cutout and left it there. So, now my butterfly is sealed shut and I can't get it open with the switch. This weekend I have to crawl under there and take it off. Oh well, I be able to get it right this time a lot better than trying to squeeze underneath the car.

What I did, I took some high temp red RTV, put some on the outer edges of the power plate (the part that contacts the butterfly, then put two even lines around the arm that the butterfly attaches to. After sometime, the two bolts that hold the butterfly to the swing arm with loosen and then air will escape from those parts. Maybe I can get some pics this weekend for ya. - Patrick :D

I ran a QTEC for months without any RTV and never had a leaking problem. Also the bolts are just fine, they are alittle short but there is still enough bolt there to get the nuts on good.

The bolts that came with my QTECs were plenty long and though I have some slight leaking when they are closed it's never been enough of a concern or annoyance for me to mess with the RTV fix.

Personally, I'd just install it and see how things go before you bother fixing something that may not be a problem at all.

I had a Flowtech cutout installed before I ordered the QTEC electric plate.

That's true. I just remember reading so many stories about how they didn't completely seal and I'd figure I'd save some trouble by doing "preventive maintanence" before the install.

I guess I'll just go ahead and install it first and see what happens. If I have to take it off later, it's only 3 bolts.:p

I haven't installed it yet because my car is getting fixed from hitting that deer.:sulk: http://www.ls2.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5844

It came in the mail that afternoon and I couldn't wait to put it on.:( Now I'm just hoping to get my car back before the 15th because I'm going down to Miami and was looking forward to racing my brother in his Civic again. I hope I don't have to take the Taurus wagon.:umm:
