I was thinking about doing some minor rewiring to my stereo in my S10 once I get my new sub in the mail (mtx 8000 10" 4 ohm) in the next couple of days. Right now I have 4 gauge power cable running to a d-block, and it distributes it out to 8 gauge wires for about 2-3 feet to my 2 seperate amps. I use MTX 8302 for the sub and MTX 4244 for the mains. So about 650 RMS altogether, nothing to brag about. So once I get my new sub I plan on upgrading it to 4 gauge power/ground wires with a different distribution block. I have a little bit of headlight dimming when I'm really thumping the music. I was wondering if buying a 1.0 farad cap would alleviate this problem, or is it a problem with me using too small a gauge of wiring? :dunno: I've heard different people saying that caps are crap, that they work great, or I should just buy a better alternator right from the get go, as if a cap is a band-aid on a gun shot wound. Everything sounds great, and the sub hits hard no matter how long I play it, and it never gets muddy or audibly loses any power. Would I be better off spending my money elsewhere instead of a cap or.....should I fork out the 60 some odd bucks? :dunno: :help: TIA!

I have two 12" Kicker L7's and a JBL 1200.1 amp.. No cap or anything... It did crack my first battery though... and the one I have know leaks once in a while. Other than that, it works just fine

Not worth the time or money, just too small to really help even a brake light bulb from dimming.

If a shop really wants you to buy it, they should hook it up and then unhook it and the difference should be obvious. If they can prove it to work, there would be no question if it works or not.

Nah I do everything myself, I don't bother with audio shops they just take money that could be better spent towards more equipment. How hard is red to positive and black to ground anyways? ;)
A buddy of mine has a similar setup to mine in his prelude and a 1.0 cap and his doesn't hit any harder than mine, only his headlights still dim a tiny bit less. If that's all it does, f'it I'd just rather buy a bigger alternator.

Well a cap is going to help a little. But not that much. its for sure not going to help sound. yellow will help and a new alternator will help. if I were you I would get a yellow and cap. because that seems to be a good combonation. Rather than getting a huge alternator.

i would save the money and not buy a cap. Get a yellow tip battery. Caps have never worked for me... kinda like a band aid for a bigger problem.
