View Full Version : Anyone running a vig 2600 in their truck?

I had the 2800 in my 99Z and was pleased with the quality and performance. I'd like to stick with a PI converter but I hear they aren't the best when it comes to the trucks. I also heard from a PI rep who said they have a new 10 1/2" converter specifically for the line of trucks. Anyone have an opinion on these converters? Tanks.

only thing i have experience with so far is the TCI 2800 i have....but if everything goes right i'll have a Pro Yank 3600 Extreme by next week.....i'll search LS1TECH for that vig and see what comes up.

I believe there is a guy on tech that has one. I will see if I can find the post again.
Just FYI.. I love my TT3000.

OK Dan, here is a little info I dug up for you. Most dont recommend the Vigs for the trucks because of their size. Its smaller diameter (245mm) will feel a lot looser, have more shift extension and not have near the towing capacity as a larger 278mm converter like the Yank Truck Thruster of the same stall. It will probably feel great under accelleration and WOT but the clutch may not be too happy with you once it is locked up, especially in your heavier Z. Although there is a guy that just put a Vig 2800 in his 4.8 RCSB and loves it. I am sure he dosnt tow much though.
Oh, and did I tell ya earlier that I love my Yank? :D

Is the 245mm a 9 1/2 inch converter? I'm bad with metric. :o Anyways, PI is supposed to have a 10 1/2" converter that is multi disk and has more clutch surface to eliminate heat. I'm told it was created specifically for our line of trucks but I have yet to find someone that has one. They are a bit pricey so I may think about the Yank.

Yes, the vig is a 9.5". I havent heard anthing of the multi disk vig but did hear of a new 10" dual clutch Yank that is supposed to be comming out. I believe the vigs and yanks are all within a close price margin. Yank has definately proved themselves in the truck/suv market though.
I found the link to that thread about the dual disk yanks. HERE (http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109000)

They got a good discussion going on over there. :) Choosing a converter for my Z was a whole lot easier. These damm trucks are an entirely different animal and I want to be 100% sure how the verter is gonna react before I throw it in there. What about traction? With the Z, I threw some nittos in back and never spun that bad. I haven't had the chance to test my street traction out in warm weather yet but i'm assuming the higher stall is gonna make for a bad day on street tires. :(

I have a Vig 2800 in my truck('00 5.3L single cab, sport bed), and I love it. It doesn't feel loose at all to me, and I actaully wish I'd gotten a 3200. I don't do any towing though. :drive:

Traction?? What is that? :p I can blow my 285/50/18 Nitto 404 up pretty good from a dig on the street. I have to run ET Steets at the track, especially on the gas. At least with your Z71 you can launch in 4hi. ;)

Traction is something we all wish we had before doing all them performance mods. :D

Well I went to PIs website and there was no mention of this new 10 1/2" converter. Since I personally e-mailed the PI rep, all I can think of is that its so new, they haven't had a chance to update their website. Anyone with a 9 1/2 2800 wanna take a ride to Chicago and give me a ride? :D

hey I think I am the one BIGKID is talking about.
I just put the vig 2800 on my 4.8L a few months ago
I had a hughes 2500 and it sucked, the truck just wouldnt get out of the hole with that one.
but boy does it get up and move now.
my 60' with the hughes where 2.4 and with the vig they are 2.0's
verter doesnt feel to loose now with the built trans actually feels to tight.
i have towed a couple of cars with mine and it pulled just fine. dont know what the trans temp was like tho.
but i would have to say it was a big diffrence between the 2 veryers. hell i can jump ALMOST anything out of the hole

Thats what I wanted to hear. :) I have some idea of what the 2800 is like having had one in my 99Z but now a lot of things have changed. I'm back to a street tire, I don't have a 273 in back anymore and I have a lot more weight to move. :D I'd say taking .4 off your 60' alone was worth the swap.

I also have 3.73 gears and an Eaton posi.
and those 60' times where on my street tires:D

Thats damm impressive on a street tire! Do you have to ease into the throttle or are you mashing that SOB? :D

Oh, we gotta do this on street tires? High 1.9s are about the best I can do on my radials but I am looking for 1.6s on the ETs soon. 1.72 is my best so far.

Daniel, you got a .4 better 60' time with the Vig 2800. How much did you over all 1/4 time improve with it?

thats stalling up to 2000 rpms and the romping on it. I will get a very slight chirp sometimes but for the most part, it just flat out launches.

all most a full second.
went from a 15.4 to a 14.6
but that to was on a crappy transmission.
I dont know if it will be any better now with the built one from Century Automotive.
Also the 15.4 was with a peg leg, and 3.42's, and a 2500 stall
the 14.6 was with a posi, and 3.73's, and a 2800 vig
also have soom nelson tunnig in there
one other thing the 14.6 was with me letting off the gas for about a second or to because, i was hitting the rev limiter shifting into third. once it shifted i would get back into it.:drive:

That would be me :D
But it's a 3200, not a 2800. Oh yea, and it kicks fuckin ass
I don't tow and wouldn't with a 4.8 scsb, so I put that verter on
Yea it's loose, almost too loose at first, but I'm used to it and don't mind it anymore
It felt like a totally different truck when I had that verter put in. Holy shit

You and me both. I know the Vig 2800 did wonders for my 99Z28 and that was with a 273 granny gear. :) Traction on a street tire did not even exist. :(
