Ok, I keep hearing about this torque management thing on the A4 GTO. Did the F-bodys have this also on the A4? I don't recall having heard about this on the A4 f-bods. How much power does this sap from the motor, and is there a programmer to defeat this management system?? Is it there to save the trans, or motor? I think the trans, but if that is true, why no torque management on the M6?

Torque management is gm's bullshit solution to a tranny that can't handle the torque of the LS1. Instead of putting in better clutches and imput shaft ect...they put in 10k hours of programming to back off at peake torque.
The later F-bods had it worse. I keep hearing it is terrible in the gto? It can be removed with programming but there is debate on tranny longevity if done so?

so, if you program "it out", and have to have warranty work done, can the scan tool pick up any data, that it has, or was modified???(editting the torque management)

btw, I always thought that the A4 was a "stout" piece, but know I'm starting to wonder, any thoughts guys? I'm moving to Chicago, and I want an A4, I don't want to deal with a 6spd in Chicago traffic.

The 4L65E is a great trans, but the TM only comes in when you mash down on the pedal.

so, if you are doing some "spirited driving" would it come into play then, or just really "heavy" driving?

if your driving fast, no. If you are at a stop light, and mash on the gas, yes it will.

The 65 should be able to handle it, its just that constant abuse will just crap it out. No trans lasts forever. Imagine if it was an Ford AOD?

The 65E has upgraded internals and can handle more torque than the 60E. High Performance Pontiac did an excellent article on the tranny. TM's most noticeable feature is backing off ignition timing big time on shift points. When you run autotap, you can clearly see the PCM pulling timing. The shifts are also slower.
