Okay here the set-up in my boat....

4.... 6.5 Alpine's in the boat total.2 in the cabin 2 in the cockpit.

2...Alpine type-R 12's in sealed enclosure in the cabin.Small area but facing outwards.

1..Sony CA900X head unit...52x4.

I need an amp to run the subs......I am considering a 5 channel Alpine like the MRV F353..5 channel.

Thinking I would run the 6.5's off the front and rear channels and then run the subs of the sub channel.......duh!

Here's the issue.......How am I gonna run two type R 12's 4+4 ohm subs off one

Here's the specs on the
Output Power (speaker amplifier):

30W x 4 into 4 ohms at 12V
40W x 4 into 4 ohms at 14.4V
80W x 2 bridged at 12V
100W x 2 bridged at 14.4V
Output Power (sub amplifier):

120W into 4 ohms at 12V
150W into 4 ohms at 14.4V e Alpine amp.

wire the subs voice coils in series...positive of one to the neg. of the other. then just run some wire to the amps pos and neg. I can draw a diagram if you need one.

Draw it out for me please........I understand but is this gonna be enough amp to run these R's......I am expecting to need a cap but it will have its own dedicated Deep cycle to drain. Is the Cap still needed?.

Go ahead and draw me out a diagram if you would.

my mspaint skills at there best. The little circles are your push terminals on the sub. Do it to each sub. Then wire the postives of both subs to the amp. same with the negs. You shouldn't need a cap if it has its own battery, assuming you have a large enough alertnator to charge both batteries. A cap is really just a bandaid for a poor electrical system.

One you should not need a cap as JTom said. Also what he is trying to get you to do is wire the subs at ohm. You need to look at the specification of the amp. One to see if it can handle it and two to see if the subs can handle the power being sent to them at two ohms. Also 5 channel amps usually can handle one ohm which will give you more power. I would go to www.crutchfield.com and look for their sub wiring diagram. That has helped my friends when they are out of town and I can't help them.

the way i said would yeild a 4 ohm load total for the 2 subs, which that amp will do just fine(series the voice coils). I would just get a seperate amp to run the subs. That amp really doesn't have enough power to run 2.

So maybe a decent 4ch amp for the 4 6.5's and a very good 2ch or mono amp for the subs.

id go for a two amp setup, have a 2 or 4 channel amp for the cabin speakers and then get a mono block or two channel amp for the subs. For the sub amp, wire it down to 1ohm and then parallel wire the subs to match the 1 ohm, assuming the amp and subs can handle one ohm.

sounds great to me
