I had a dead Mccord Power plate and had an idea to once again allow me to open and close the cutout at will. I got a choke cable from Autozone (about $5) and drilled a small hole in the console and routed the cable under the carpet to a drain plug under the passengers side floorboard. I removed the motor from the plate and put a small allen wrench where the motor was and drilled a small hole in it to put the cable through.

Now all I have to do is push on the knob in the console to open the cutout, or pull up to close it

Question is how well does it seal now?

Just as well as it did with the motor. Every once in a while I will hear it buzzing on startup and just pull up on the cable a bit. Works great!

it doesn't look like it gets wide open, can you open it any more?

That is cool...I wonder if a solenoid could be incorporated into that idea. That would keep the electronics intact and might be able to seal better.

The ol' JCWhitney mod, ...

JCWhitney has sold cutouts like that for many, many years.

Quick, easy, inexpensive way to control it, ...

:yup: Back when I had my cutout I was bolting the plate back on and my dad said back in the day we used to have those but we would run a cable to the console to open it and close it.

I used to have a JC Whitney Cutout (on a former car) and a very well spaced spring or two really helps in the open and shut process. I put a spring exactly at the halfway point so that if it was open or if it was shut the same spring held tension.

Hope this helps,
Earl
