I hope this is in the right area.
Question, if you were the ad agency for Gm, for their cars and trucks, what do you think the ads should say, contain, to catch you, or reel you in?
Basically when you think of GM what comes to mind, I want positive, not negative crap.
When I think of Gm, I think of my second car, A 1971 Cutlass Supreme, and all the fun me and my friends had, I think of my dad, helping him with his, I think of my 4x4 and all the mud bogging, I think of all the beaters I have had, and beat the hell out of them. And I abused them.
They performed great then, and the ones I have still do today.
Also, when you see the word LUXURY what comes to mind?

Hammer home the facts...how GM's quality and reliabilty have improved, how Toyota's and Honda's have more recalls than ever and advertise the cars that don't get advertised....they should take out a huge ad at the superbowl highlighting these qualities in GM today.

Ditto the above.
Plus, I'd ditch the Led Zeppelin campaign. What is it, three years old now?
Even teh mighty zep gets old after a while. . .
Do you all think the new camaro will get more advertising than the
fourth gens?:o
best commercial ever:
where the ws6 eats the ferrari

I saw a full size billboard by the freeway today with the Impala SS with 303 HP in huge print.
Looks like they are finally bragging about HP as an ad tool.
You have to hit the 3 "sins" though basically to hook and reel in the consumer.
appeal to body, "lust of the flesh" make it desirable to have = sense of touch/feel
appeal to the soul "lust of the eyes" make it look desirable = sense of sight
appeal to the spirit "pride of life" sense of selfworth, = wise buy, better, superior, faster, more powerful......

outright attacking your competition doesnt seem to work.
pointing out your own strengths should speak for themselves.
wasnt GM the first to have automatic tranns. and power steering and use more than one color on their vehicles?
they should start there then go to trhe present showing how much theyve improved and theyre #1 and plan on keeping it that way.

Sell me on price, sell me on quality, sell me on performance, sell me on desirability, sell me on reliability, hammer it in with facts, ads...holy crap, Subaru for example has beeen flooding the air with ads for the new Tribeca like there's no tomorrow.

my point is you want to remind people that used to buy GM vehicles that dont anymore why they used to and why they should again.
price?shit,theyre giving their stuff away.
other things it seems no matter what certain people dont want to believe GM makes a quality vehicle.

Not compared to competing models from other manufactures, and their resale isn't exactly stellar on most models either.

You are right. Nonetheless, the Tribeca is a bomb. The more they advertise it, the more they show how ugly its exterior is. The 2006 Impala is selling extremely well and is getting a fair amount of ad time as well. I can't remember the last time I saw a Grand Prix ad...they have a 303hp V-8 available too. The Impala alone outsold the ENTIRE Ford midsize car lineup during November.
FWIW, a friend of my wife's just bought a new Subaru Imprezza WRX. It has the same hideous grille that is on the Tribeca. The car drives great and probably is very well built. Its looks alone just about guarantee that nobody else we work with will be buying one.

The whole reliability and quality issue can be resolved any time GM wants.... offer a real warranty instead of the 3/36 bullshit, do this standard on all vehicles at no extra charge.
Maybe if GM themselves believed in the crap their rolling off the line it would already come with a better warranty.
How about a GM purchase direct?? I'm sick of these sorry ass dealerships treating me like crap along with their sorry ass vehicle service. I've had more damage done to 2 gm vehicles by the dealerships then through normal wear or crappy parts alone.
they need to cut the sticker price. there isn't a person alive who thinks sticker price on any american car is even close to the real price, so it absolutely kills the GM when doing an online comparison (with the tables setup with all the specs).
everyone knows the employee pricing/"red tag"/whatever's next sales will never end, so just make the prices reflect the actual price
