I know these are some n00b questions, but this is a new site so I can ask without fear of "use the search before asking" line :D
Does anyone know where I can find the difference between the years for LS1s in F-Bodies?
I'm looking to get an LS1 in a few months and I wanna know what the differences are between the years. I know that 01+ got a better cam, !EGR, and a possibility of getting LS6 heads.
What are some of your opinions on what year I should get.
Also, I've heard rumors that the stock clutch is pretty weak, at what point does this become an issue? I'm not gonna go wild, probably just a lid, exhaust and maybe heads and a mild cam.
Also, when does the stock 10 bolt come into question?
What are the differen't rear end gears for the LS1 stock for auto and manual and RPO codes for each.
How serious the "piston slap" issue and what years are least affected by it?
I would normal use :google: and try to find the info for myself, but I figured I'd do my part in trying to build up the library
Thanks in advance.

uh, well, 00 or 01+ actually got a SMALLER cam, but made up for it with a stock LS6 intake manifold and better exhaust manifolds. i wouldn't get an LS1 with EGR, just cause its an unneccessary headache. as far as gears, check the FAQ's on 'the other site' for this info. ur rear-end will become an issue when u start track racing frequently, ESPECIALLY with slicks. get a 12 bolt when u can afford it, it's not a priority. as far as clutches go, i wouldn't know because i got an auto for MANY reasons (never miss a shift, and risk bending my pushrods for one and the other is more consistant times)
ultimately, get an 02. i think its the best year and has 35th anni for resale value. BTW, i love ur avatar, i wish i could figure out a way to use it! enjoy:)

and NO fbodies got ls6 heads, 01 had a 15% chance and the 02's a 25% chance of an ls6 block.
all m6 cars have 3.42 gearing. a4's either have 2.73's or 3.23's; ss/ws6's auto's have the 3.23's. dont remember the RPO codes off hand though.
rear end is suspect on all years, a little more forgiving on the a4 then m6 though.
and the 01+ got a smaller cam ;)

2002 Models:
"7. Some 2002 model F-bodies came with a revised rear view mirror that had the map light buttons on the bottom, rather than the front."
I have that and it is an early build. Is that as good as having an LS6 block?;)

 I have a '01 Z28 and the map lights and buttons are on the bottom of the mirror.

5. 2001-02 cars had 28 lb fuel injectors like the 98 cars (albeit different part numbers)
Didn't know that.

even at that though, with all the injector, cam, intake, pcm changes it weird people pick out a dome light, or different hatch, or something small like that.
to me an ls1 is an ls1 is an ls1 :D

I have a 2001 and I already knew about everything on the list for my year car except the injector size, which I commented on.
I can see now why I replied to that post. I think I read it like this......

I have a 2001 and mine was revised, when this says the mirror was revised in some 2002 models.
I read it to say, before 2002 (in some cases), the map light and buttons were on the front.
It's no big deal, it just seemed odd which was why I commented on it.

Good info jrp. Have to cut and paste that one. I always get people that ask me about the different years.
