Car: 1997 LT1 A4

I just had a Prothane trans mount installed a couple months ago. After reading tons of posts from multiple F-Body boards, I was expecting the worst rattles and vibrations to be expected. Well after a short drive, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Yes, I do feel a tiny bit more vibration through the interior, but nothing that would make want to put the rubber mount back in. I know that the level of vibration is subjective to the driver, but I am finicky when it comes to ride comfort [believe me, the roads in my area SUCK!]. I ordered the Prothane mount through Spohn's website.

For a comparison, if anyone has seen the engine bay of a W-Body from 1989-1996 [Grand Prix, Cutlass, Lumina, Regal, Monte Carlo], then you know they have a set of upper motor mounts [from the engine itself to the core support]. I had a set of polyurethane bushings installed in a set of billet aluminum replacement mounts. It vibrated the car so bad I thought it was going to fall apart! The vibration went away after a weeks worth of driving. Compared to the Prothane tranny mount, the Prothane is no where near the amount of vibration I felt in the W-Body.

If anything, I think I MIGHT have heard something tap the transmission tunnel. I've also driven the car at highway speeds with no problems, but I haven't gone above 90mph yet . I'll be more then likely to replace the stock unbalanced steel driveshaft with an aluminum one from an LS1 by Christmas.

I have one of these and it's fine, as well!

Another vote for the Prothane. Just replaced my 55,000 mile OEM mount with one, and noticed a lot less vibration, the shifts feel firmer, and the throttle response is better - I think that could be due to the fact that with the stock mount, I could wiggle it side to side almost 1/4" by grabbing the bolt in the center. I get a LOT less feedback - noise and vibration - through the shifter handle with the new mount, and the transmission feels a but more solid.

I bought one of those a while back too. And it is a lot better then the stock one which before going with the Prothane i had brocken two stock ones in a fairly stock camaro.

The drive in 4th gear (D), is not that bad at all. But its when you shift the tranny into 3rd gear D, the you get some vibrates. And once you go past 90 in 4th gear you will hear the car vibrate a lot more past 9o mph but its not too bad.

I recommend you also get the Prothane torque arm bushing for the stock torque arm, they make a wonderful diffiernce too.

I've also added Prothane bushings to the stock lca, sb front and rear and the car feels really connected to the road.
