How much does the Solstice weigh?
I still don't like the looks of the front end, but it is a much cooler car with an LS2 in it.

Pontiac isn't making it, Mallett is. Pontiac is just making the Solistice itself, Mallett is doing the engine swap.

i wonder how much it will cost do just swap it yourself. Usually tuners like Mallet and Lingenfelter are really expensive, And you could do it for thousands less.

That specific model probably adds a couple hundred pounds, with the LS2, T56, and whatever else was needed to be upgraded.

Yeah, that's true.. but even that considered it will still have a horsepower to weight ratio somewhere around that of a C5 Z06, if not superior to it. That car is gonna scream.
Probably will be a bit on the nose heavy side, though..

I bet GM could make it like that in the low $30K range, and it would sell like hotcakes. I bet they wouldn't be able to keep them on the lot.

GM wouldn't do it. They wouldn't want it to take away from Vette sales.

Obviously it didn't take millions upon millions of R&D to make it since a small (relatively speaking) independent tuner did it. Since they would mass produce it, it would be even cheaper. I don't see why they couldn't be priced around 30k flat before any options. Although I'd say the car would sell about 10k a year, if MARKETED right, which hasn't been done right on a sports car other then the Vette by GM in years, which is a shame cause they did make some cool commercials at first for the WS6.

wow, i actually dont think thats a bad deal at all.
if they do something similar when the sky launches next summer, for that price i might pick one up (if they're not already accounted for) :hmm:
Nice little package, if I was in the market I would be in line to order one.

It's kind of funny that it looks like it would be easier to work on the ls2 in a solstice than it is to work on a ls1 in a z28 that's twice it's size.

The stated conversion costs from Mallet are around $ 18,000.00 Engine, trans, computer wiring harness about $10,000 retail $8,000.00 parts and labor. I wouldn't do it for that, let alone give you any warranty like a GM warranty (maybe that's why they're in financial trouble).
The expense is in the new car and what has to be eliminated as useless and what is replaced with what. Are you confused yet?
I would have chosen a similar route except I figure if I was going to throw away so much of the original car why not sell the unused parts to help recoup some of the costs and use a lower cost car to begin with, like a Miata?

I would just buy a stripped down Solstice versus a Miata. If your talking about buying it new. Can't compare used cause there are none yet of the Solstice.
Then I would just build up a LS1 Heads and Cam motor. I think over 500rwhp would be enough for that light of a car. Squeeze in the 6 speed and put a 9" IRS underneath it all and baam instant fast lowslung light weight car.
No power windows no power locks or nothing like that. Not even AC. Just a heater and thats it.
But that is just what I would do.

For ~$38K... this car keeps grabbing my attention. It would be a freaking BLAST to drive. It would be a little nose heavy, but not horribly. It's not like the LS2 is all that heavy in reality.

Only reason you don't need the LS2 engine swap is this...

http://www.gm.com/company/gmtunersource/downloads/gm_sport_compact_performance_build_book.pdf
I might consider a swap when I can get the car cheap (used), but you still have RX7s and Miatas that people use for the LSx swap.

I can't even imagine what the 600 horses with the supercharger conversion would be like on a 3000 lb car.

Kinda like that Darius guy with the 240Z shoehorned around a Procharged LT1... blip the throttle and it's sideways in 3rd @ 75 mph :p
Looks like a helluva pocket rocket!

Want more? Mallett will also wedge a 402-cid “stroker” motor into your Solstice if you’ve got another spare $9,000 burning a hole in your pocket, or for the seriously speed-addicted, a supercharged 7.0-liter upgrade for another $18,761.
The kicker: It all comes with a two-year, 24,000-mile warranty.

BUT that Mallet version is cool as hell, and $37K really isn't a bad price for it.

Ok, seeing as how they're only going to produce about 100 of these, for all intents and purposes few of us will ever get the chance to even see one of these, let alone own one.
I'm wondering how hard it would be to buy a Solstice and do the motor swap. I mean obviously it's possible. One of the major downsides is you'd void your warranty doing it yourself. Hmm... I wonder what the dealership would do if you rolled in with an LS2. Mechanic points to the V8 in the engine bay and you just give him the look :dunno:
Anyway, I'm very interested in a car like this, especially for this price. I could care less about having the Mallet name on the car, I just want the performance. A 3000 lb. roadsterlike car with a near 50/50 weight distribution and a 400 hp powerplant for $38k. Where do I sign up?

It was only a matter of time....The guys at Mallett have made a Solstice with the LS2! Making the same 400 hp. If you want more power, they can throw on a SC or drop in the LS7! There is a Saturn Sky version too, but no pics yet.
Enjoy!

Since it actually appears to be work completed by a 3rd party and approved by GM this vehicle may actually maintain it's price down the line. At least this won't be like the SS/WS6 sticker mobile.
Actual upgrades, wow. This is almost like the Yenko days.
I'm sure the Sky will look even better.
