So I went to the yearly Seattle auto show today as I do on a yearly basis, and they had an "SS" on show. I talked to the guy a bit and he mentioned how it may be the camaro replacement, and how its likely to have an LS2 etc. but he also said that it is sorta like a family sedan. Im sure most have you have seen it, but I still havent decided if it is pretty, or not worthy yet.

There had better be a revolt if the Camaro name is put on that hideous piece of metal. Looks like a damn SSR car.

Looks like an SSR and a Solstice had a bastard child.
Don't see how they're going to add 2 doors to that concept without stretching the car out a bit, and if they keep it 2 door, just imagine someone trying to get into those back seats.

I first saw it at the 2002 at the NAIAS...
It was nothing more than a concept..from inception

Yeah, the damn thing has been around for years now... Perhaps its just GM's way of "trying" to hold us off while they build a real camaro!?!?!

When this was displayed the first time, most of this wasn't being offered..
SS Concept: Contemporary Chevy Muscle
The 2003 Chevrolet SS concept showcases a new generation of Chevy muscle, with dynamic design, race-proven technology and balanced performance.
A modern interpretation of Chevrolet's Super Sport heritage, the Chevy SS is a contemporary four-door family sedan turned sports car. It packs rear-wheel drive with a high-technology version of the legendary small-block V-8, and high-performance suspension and brakes to match.
"It's a vehicle to be shared with your family or with your buddies," said Franz von Holzhausen, the SS's exterior designer. "It builds on Chevrolet's great performance heritage, while updating the SS concept for a whole new generation."
Muscular appearance
The Chevy SS, a product of GM Design's Los Angeles studio, exudes power and performance at first glance with its intense, Victory Red exterior and a reflective Cromax glass finish. The design is fluid with a short front overhang, long dash-to-axle and wide, muscular fenders providing an aggressive stance.
Powerful wheel arches house 21-inch front and 22-inch rear aluminum wheels with BF Goodrich performance tires. The package also includes side gills, sporty round taillamps, through-fascia dual exhaust and a brushed stainless steel panel surrounding the taillamps.
The SS's muscular forms also hint at Chevy's ultimate performance car - the Corvette.
Latest evolution of small-block V-8
Underneath the hood is the latest evolution of Chevy's race-proven small-block V-8. The car's longitudinal all-aluminum 6.0-liter V-8 engine pumps 430 horsepower and 430 lbs.-ft. of torque. The engine is paired with a Hydra-Matic 4L65-E four-speed, rear-wheel-drive, electronically controlled automatic transmission. It also could be equipped with the fuel-saving Displacement on Demand technology, debuting on somein 2004 on some 2005 GM models, which shuts down half of the cylinders during most driving conditions and automatically and seamlessly reactivates them for more demanding conditions, such as brisk acceleration or load hauling.
The SS features sophisticated low-arm SLA suspension and independent rear suspension for high-performance driving. The chassis features driver-adjustable shocks to change the damping ratio. The SS driver can tune the chassis for a softer setting during the week and dial in more performance for track days on the weekend.
Clean, understated interior
"The interior is clean and understated with hints of SS heritage. The cool off-white leather surfaces, which contrast well against the warm red exterior, provide a spacious ambience," said Bryan Nesbitt, GM's executive director of design, body-frame integral. "The interior seat upholstery mixes the white leather with a modern woven, hounds-tooth check vinyl reminiscent of the SS cars of the past. Slate leather covers the upper doors and instrument panel while brushed stainless steel accents add refinement," said Nesbitt.
"The SS seats five, but maintains a driver-oriented, cockpit feel," said Blake Allen, the SS's interior designer. The steering wheel is leather-wrapped, and the performance seats are buckets with body adjustments for sport driving. The gear shifter is console-mounted in the SS tradition, with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifting in the sport mode. There is a built-in child booster seat in the center rear, and the entire rear seats fold flat for extra cargo space.
"With their power and speed, these cars gave Americans a sense of freedom and rebellion against the ordinary, at a price tag that many could afford. The Chevy SS truly is mobile entertainment for performance enthusiasts of all generations," Nesbitt said.

The SS concept really has nothing to do with a future RWD V8 coupe. It was simply a styling exercise to get public feedback. Yup, it's controversial......but for those who don't like it? Well, we just had it in a clinic of 2,500 people.....and guess whot???
It went off the map.....in fact, it scored higher than the 300C (both unbadged)
We aren't gonna build it; and while it's a couple of years old, I've placed it on the show tour for certain cities so that car enthusiasts can see it up close and personal.
(by the way......I don't think a car or truck should ever be judged until it's seen in person......pictures, for the most part, never do a car or truck justice)

Can't say I would have forseen the results of the clinic. But I will agree with your comments about seeing a car in person, I've seen many like that.
Speaking of the 300, will we be seeing anything else from GM to compete with the 300 SRT-8? Or will that remain the job of the CTS-V?

I imagine if it had Acura, Maserati, Lexus, BMW, or Mercedes badging on it, it would draw rave reviews from many of the import-lover crowd.
For a few years we have been hearing complaints about GM's lack of "exciting" styling, but everytime Chevrolet puts out something that is a radical departure from their existing styling people freak out.
And somehow nobody complains about the styling of the cookie-cutter "suppository design" cars: Accord, 3-Series BMW, Most MB's, etc. From 100' few people can tell the difference between any of these.

Not necessarily. We show concept cars...even ones several years old because people come to auto shows -- in some cases-- to see 'cool stuff'......
Now......it would have been much cheaper NOT to send the SS concept to Seattle (you don't WANT to know how much it costs to send a concept car in a temperature controlled truck from Detroit to Seattle)..........but I think many would agree that concept cars add to an autoshow............

I liked the SS concept from day one, it was a nice depature from the typical GM design.
I'm more excited about a rwd sedan v8 from Chevy, more so than the Camaro. I hope we aren't waiting to much longer for it. :)

I dig the SS concept, the tail panel is really cool and it looks like the interior is different to. It still retains the long hood and great curves that i have always liked :)
the exhaust and tail lights are also very cool.
I am curious about the gas door on each side of the rear 1/4

:ditto: I just hope that chevy doesn't compete with the charger on weight. 4200lbs is assinine!!! Should not weigh more than 3800lbs MAX.
I like the rear of that car, the front I am not so fond of but being a well rounded 4-door with a nice RWD V8 setup wouldnt be a bad thing.
I vote bring it out to compete with the 300C. :)

Somehow I don't think this will be the Camaro replacement. An Impala replacement would be more likely.
Its already been said in this thread that it wont be a replacement for anything. So unless we get like 500,000 people waiting in line with check books in hand I dont think it will ever make production.

I would agree, especially considering that GM ended up being the only manufacturer showing a concept car at the SIAS. Everything else was just cars off the street... Ford didn't even have a GT500 Cobra on display.... in fact the only Mustang they had was a V6 ragtop... At least Saleen picked up the slack for them.
