OK, what do you all think, would the SS nameplate be fitting and acceptable on the new propossed Blue Devil Vette?
I say no way, why link a super car to a group of pedestrian "performance vehicles"? Cobalt, Trailblazer, Malibu, Impala, Monte Carlo??
IMO it would be:cuckoo:
What say you all?

I say no. But I also don't consider those cars to be crap. They are everything an SVT or SRT is, just that GM has a longer, richer, and better history of performance cars than some others does not mean they should run away from it.
The car would need to stand out among standouts.

It should have a unique trim level name, not SS.

I think it would be fine. Anyone who believes that the current SS lineup is a disgrace to the SS name doesn't know their history, or the current offering for that matter.
I still vote Stingray:headbang:

I still vote Stingray:headbang: While there is no doubt the current lineup of SS vehicles surpasses the performance of the bulk of the original classic SS models that were offered, the stratospheric performance leap to a Blue Devil dwarfs what the SS line is trying to accomplish.

Anyway, I admit, when I first heard that the Blue Devil could be called an SS I was like WTF......that's just weird. Then I read the rest of the article and the story behind the original SS Vette and it made perfect sense:shrug:

I see no humor in it.
Pretty straightforward logic.
It might be a great sales ploy to get the folks who are buying the current SS line to think they are aligned with the Blue Devil... not that that type of sales trick is new.
It's been used since the 1960's to sells cars, kinda like the win on Sunday sell on Monday, a Chevy wins on Sunday and sales of all models would leap on Monday regardless of what model won.
So backwards it might look good, but forwards?
A world class super car linked to pedestrian "performance cars"?
Kinda be like putting the Ferrari name on a $28k budget performance car.

Blue Devil sounds fine to me. Linking a 600hp Corvette with an econobox Cobalt doesn't.
I'd vote for a unique name that will stand out. SS Corvette just isn't that different.

You people are so mad that some current SS vehicles don't have V8s in them that you are reading WAY too far into the SS name. I'll leave this alone for now:o

I believe COPO Corvette would be a suitable name. The COPO's had an aluminum 427.

I say no. The Vette has never had an SS package. I think it needs to be something original and new. Give it a real name though and not just the option code.

Well I'm not surprised,
it's pretty much a landslide
vote against SS.
Glad the general public has some sense. :D

I fail to see where anyone
has mentioned a non V8 SS as an issue.
The common sentiment that keeps coming
up is simple and totally understandable.
The current SS line is not of the
calibre this car will be. So to tie
this car to that line would be
nothing short of ridiculous.
At least Dodge has *some* sense and put
numerical order on the SRT line, they didn't
call the SRT4 an SRT10 for example. They
used the cylinder numbers for the numerical
designation.

And your point is? Not very many people had heard "Z06" before unless they were into classic vettes and it's a household name now.
It's historical, it's significantly tied to a 427 cubic inch motor, and it's the baddest version from the factory available.
SS historically is wheels and graphics
COPO historically is factory race car

The should call it the "ZR1Z06ZL1betterthanthose" Corvette....
I don't care what they call it, cause I can't afford it, as long as they make it WGAF....

eh, not a big deal in my book, I was just trying to throw up something original and historical for the thread that signified an actual performance upgrade and was not "SS", "ZR1", or "Stingray".
I guess if you have to have a "real" name I would say ZR1 for the name of the blue devil. ZR1 means very expensive bad ass vette to me.

Yeah it made some good HP for it's time, but the price was stupid silly and in the end of it's run the base Vette was near as fast for almost 1/2 the price. I say let ZR1 RIP.

When I think of SS I think of super sport camaro's, 396 chevelle's, super spor monte carlo's, not malibu's and cobalts. I Like the idea of the SS badging on the vette, I think I would really like to see the token SS emblems stripped from all the family/non performance cars though.
They do not belong.

i have no problem with it being named SS.
its the top level corvette. SS = top model of a car.

Z06 works in marketing, because there is allot of cool elements to it. COPO sounds stupid no matter if you say it C.O.P.O or "COPO" I think of C3P0 or a Fat Cop.
