I have an A4 with a PT4000 with some other mods :D, will 3.73 hurt my 1/4 time. I am shooting for some 10 sec passes.

If you can get traction, no. Are you starting with 3.23s?

it won't hurt it, but actually help alittle. You'll need to be able to hook up though.

:stupid: Got a couple of friends running them and their problem is traction. Dyno numbers go down a little but so do you ET's. ;)

What are you going to be traping at?

as above the gear depends on your desired mph and the tire diameter used.

Hell no they wont hurt you 1/4 mile. But they will hurt you gas mileage.:D O well you cant win them all.

Hey, guys, question for ya: I've got a Midwest 3000 2.5 and I've also got 3.73 gears and a TR 224 cam waiting to go in. Is my low stall going to hurt me?

3000 is low?

Why? I thought it had more to do with STR. I mean your cam, powerband, etc... would have more of an influence I would think. With 3.73 gears and a 4000 stall I cannot imagine getting any traction on anything less than slicks.

I have traction issues now with 2.73's and a 3000 with 2.5 STR.

I agree it has more to do with the Str, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't need a 2.5 Str with 3.73, cause the gears would pull me out of the hole. I don't think a higher stall really influences traction that much: it's more of a converter efficiency thing, cause the higher stall would keep you in the power bank longer. But, to be honest, I don't really know. That's why I posted.

Paging Blacker.

A larger stall helps you with your launch. That's it. You will be closer to your powerband. After I launch I never see 3000 RPM's again. ;) And yes a 2.5 STR is too much for 3.73 gears.

You have it reversed. A higher stall has NOTHNG to do with efficiency. Just a point where the stall locks up.

Blacker? His car is slow! The only reason he put gears in was because of me. Then had to replace the stall in it to finally be faster than me. Well... faster than me N/A :D hahha We will see this year Blacker.

373's will not hurt. gas mileage will suffer prob about 2mph. If you can hook up, then your et's will improve, if not then get some more suspension work and practice on the launch. I'm running a pt4400 Yank too and finally getting good launches after lots of practice.

Oh, well. I guess I'll drive it around a bit with 3.73s and see how it feels with the 2.5 str converter. I think I'm entitled to one trade in with a Midwest verter, so I guess I might go to 3400 2.00 after that, if I'm not happy. :)

it is only a few mods away. Lighten the front, some suspension mods, sticky tires with enough torque and your front tires are on the way up!

Yeah, with our stock rear ends we would be lucky to do that once before the big break
