hi, im new here haha. but i have a 1996 s-10 extended cab with a 4.3 v6 w/ a 5 spd tranny. i am looking into putting a ls-1 in it. i was wondering how i could get a ls-1 and a 6 spd. tranny in there. i know the motor is possible, but im not sure about the tranny. so have you guys done anything like this and do you have any pointers or other info id probably need to know. thanks very much --also if someone could explain to me the differences of the ls1, ls2, lt1, lt4 and all of those that would help me out a lot. as i said im new to the vette and camaro motors, i was just going to build my own 350, but a vette motor would be awsome under there , and a 6 spd tranny, that'd win shows. haha but thanks again. -Joe

You are correct about the engine fitting okay...you will need custom motor mounts. Look around on the internet (remember Google is your friend) For the tranny mounting you can probably find one made specifically for your application. Once again search the internet. You've made it easy on yourself by putting a manual into a manual car. Also when you buy a motor start on Ebay, and buy one that has all of the belt driven accessories, the wiring harness (w/ the computer), and the tranny attached. I paid $2800 (plus $300 Shipping from Florida) for my LS1, and it started up right after we finshed hooking it up. The biggest problem for me was the wiring...My car is 15 years older then the engine...my wiring for my car consisted of lights, ignition, and radio, everything else was mechanical, so you can see it was pretty hard, but your truck should be alot easier. Lastly you would have to reprogram the computer for your vehicle.
As for the difference in the engines I have afew websites for you...difference in the LT1 and LT4: http://www.grandsportregistry.com/lt1vslt4.htm
and the difference in the LS1 and LS2:

and if you are interested the difference between the LS1 and the LT1:

Hope this helps...oh, and I want to see some pics when you're done :)

Camino dude is right, also if you find yourself a late 97 or 98 LS1 and T-56 (initial F-body years) with the original vehicle computer you will have alot less hassle using the new V8 PCM to run things in your S-10.
LS1s, LS6s and LS2s are basically the same engines with different heads, cams, intakes, etc. and most importantly different prices. The used LS1 is undeniably the econo motor choice.
There are quite a few companies that sell OEM PCMs reprogrammed to do exactly what you want. No question it'll fit your S-10 (see my project old photo with LS1, now is LS2):drive:
