who gives a shit, you don't buy an SUV for the gas mileage.

But on that note, the EPA is claiming 20.1mpg combined with a 5.3L 4WD. How much better than that can you get in an SUV?

Nice, where was it 3 years ago though, when gas was cheap. American car companys are making another folly IMO.

My Explorer gets that or a little if I drive it at 55 which is how the EPA does its test/estimates. :o

They are going to get much better mpg than our's get.
These new trucks are going to be kick ass :smoke:

new 4 wheel disc system, as well as new Bosch ABS(the current truck ABS blows ass for those who don't have the joy of experiencing it)

stronger, fully boxed frame will be nice too

and of course the new Gen IV with DOD that actually works :headbang: with lots o' HP

"A new Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission is matched with the 6.2L engine. It has a wide, 6.04:1 overall ratio – including two overdrive gears – that helps deliver an excellent balance of performance and fuel economy. The 6L80’s six forward gears have smaller “steps” between them, compared to a conventional four-speed automatic, which bolsters both performance and the feeling of smoothness. Shorter steps between the gears help the transmission quickly find the best gear for the vehicle speed and road conditions, with less back-and-forth hunting on grades – a trait that is particularly helpful when towing. Also, the 6L80 has a “tap up/tap down” capability that allows the driver to manually select upshifts and downshifts with a button on the column shifter. "

This is gonna be a new age of vehicles.

hopefully better gas mileage, becuase I am sick of 15-17mpg in a light 1/2 ton. I dont even get on it either. And yes the ABS is horrible horrible horrible, you hit a bump and your brakes let off. Supposedly there is a recall out for it now on 2000 model year truck i think

No. That is stupid. Your thoughts:

"SUV's get bad gas milage so dont bother improving them"
"SUV's are not for getting good gas milage, people who buy them dont expect good gas milage so so we shouldn't work on improving the SUV's gas milage because clearly people dont care about it."

Wrong. I care a lot about gas milage. I just dont have a choice.

That's not what I am saying at all. I am telling it as it is. You are not going to get good gas mileage buying an SUV in this day in age.

Ridiculous that they are not going to offer the Duramax in the 3/4 ton suburban.

Let's hope this L92 makes it's way into the future Camaro.. :xfings:

I think the L92 gets matched to a new 6 speed auto. It probably will get decent mileage, think 18 - 19 mpg in the city. Thats not bad for a 400 hp full-size truck.

So...what's the difference between an L92 and an LS2?

The L92 is 6.2L vs the LS2 6.0L. L92 has VVT and the LS7 bare heads = awesome flow.

You'd think it'd be more than 400 HP then.

It's aluminum. And theres probably a very weak cam in there hold it back.

This is the same motor that is rumored to be the 450 base motor in the 2008 Corvette.

I want those heads though

You are probably right. They probably put a smaller cam in there for emmisions and legalities.

CAM swap, Headers, and a Tune sounds like the plan to me. Should be good for around 500 hp. Golden Age I tell ya.

Can you imagine a 150 shot on that motor ?

Best in class.

Hey that's great but an Explorer is not a full size SUV and the Expedition has no hope whatsoever of having mileage that even approaches this level. (DOD does not happen on the Ford Modular V8)
So what is Ford going to to compete with a vehicle that gets almost 15% better fuel economy? Never mind that these vehicles get almost 20% better fuel economy than a Toyota Sequoia or Nissan Armada. The market for these vehicles is projected to be 700,000/yr. units instead of 900,000 units/yr. If a single company can get a larger percentage of 700,000 units, there is still massive profit potential in that segment. Full size SUVs are in decline but it would be absolutely stupid for the leader in that segment to just fold up and say; "they are dead as of January 1st 2006". The key to owning this market is to offer signficant competitve advantages like fuel economy, refinement, safety, and quality. All of which are in spades in these new GM SUVs.

You are not going to get good gas mileage buying an SUV in this day in age.

Good is relative to the size of the vehicle. It won't be "good" mileage for a Toyota Echo but it will be "best" for full size SUVs.
