hello all, my name is zach im new to these boards. i got out of fbodys a year ago and now need to get back into them. i used to own a 95 LT1 T56 TA, i loved it. i really like the looks of the LT1 birds, but the performance from an LS1 would also be really nice to have. i would like to find a 93-97 TA body and swap in an LS1 and a 6 speed, along with other modifications of course, but ill work on the big stuff first.

for now here are a few questions:

1. what to look for in a body? any specific years? would the car (the 93-97 TA) have to be a 6 speed in the first place?

2. what all needs to be done for the swap?

3. electronics? sensors? ECM? ABS? etc..... what goes on with the swap there?

4. has anyone on here or know anyone who has done the swap, that can help me out a little? any good websites i can be directed to?

and i know it would be easier to just go buy an LS1 car and modify it, but that would be no fun, and i don't want to spent 7-8 grand on an LS1 car and the insurance when i can pull a 93-97 body out of the junkyard or someones backyard for 2 grand. so here's my project and any help would be awesome.

thanks
zach tower

1. i think any 93-97 would work but i would try to get a newer one. if there is a 6 speed in there , i think you have to change it, but i am not 100% sure .

as far as the other 2 ?s i dunno , expect that you need the engine , maybe a tranmission , headers , cat back , and maybe new drivetrian other than that i think any thing else .

good luck and keep me updated on how it goes.:D

Easiest way to do the swap is of course to get a rear ended complete 98-02 six speed car so you have all the bits and pieces. Swapping the front K-member with spindles, brakes, etc. is the easy way to go.

Swapping to an M6 will require pedals, wiring, cutting the floor, but I wouldn't make finding an original M6 car a major priority if your donor car is an M6 car.

3. You always want to make the drivetrain think it's still in the original car. Hooking things up as they were in the original donor vehicle are key to making them operate properly as they were in the original vehicle.

Swapping an LS1 has more to it than that.
I have a 97 M6 Z28 that i just finished doing a swap.

Now on the front end you can get by w/changing the k-member and rack w/ stock(now your prob going to change the coil-overs because the LS1 is a lot lighter and will raise your car). And of corse you will use LS1 motor mounts etc.

I put my motor in from the top(long block) I used a harness from 00 m6 and comp is from 02. Now i can tell you the hardest thing is going to convert your wires!! now the have all the info on LS1tech.com on what wires you will need. I went with an auto TH350 and there is some custom to that as well. But if your going to push HP -don't go M6 it won't hold up!

Now the fuel system if your going stock you have to change fuel tanks/fuel pumps the LT1 doesn't supply enough fuel pressure.
The fuel lines are different as well- The lt1 has 2 lines going to the motor- The LS1 has 1. In-between the fuel filter and the motor is a return line that goes back to the tank. The way i went is easy-take the feed line off of the car and drill a hole where you want the tee to come off of. Then i welded a nipple off of a fuel filter as my tee. I couldnt find any of these parts at a yard- and i saved a bunch of money from not having to go to GM!

I cant really think of anything else but if anyone has any questions or better ways you can e-mail me- richard.l.sheffield@citigroup.com Good Luck!!!

buy a 98-02 and put the nose and fenders and hood off an older one on .
