View Full Version : Is Caddy going to redesign their line soon (CTS-v query)?
Rob Almighty

Just a quick question that perhaps some of the general members might know the answer to...
I've started to seriously consider a newer sedan for the next couple of years and it's basically a toss-up between the 300C SRT-8 and the CTS-v. However, I'm somewhat concerned that Cadillac will redesign the CTS (and subsequently the V-series) within the next year or so, and I do not want an older model luxury sedan.
Any information as to when/if this is going to happen? It'll help me out, considering I'm going to look at a '05 CTS-v tomorrow. I want to be prepared.

I doubt you will see a design change in the cts line for atleast another 3-4 years. Atleast.

Ugh...I'm not going to get a CTS-v if they're going to have a new body style the year after I get it.
Guess I'll have to wait and/or do more research.

do remember that the cts-v only comes in stick, and the srt-8 only comes in auto. it could be down to the choice of auto vs. stick.
i daily drove my father's 'beater' - a cts-v - all summer. i loved it. awesome car, great daily driver. i loved how well it handled and how it felt just connected to the road.
i've never driven a srt-8 so I can't compare. i do know that anybody wanting a stick shift sport sedan could not possible be disappointed with the V - and you can get a lightly used V for nothing. mid 30's I believe.

Well, I'd consider getting a 2006 so I could have the LS2...and I also like Stealth Grey and Steel Blue, so it would be one of the two colors...
I was originally not planning on even looking at the CTS because I was going to wait until I graduated to buy a car (preferably an E55 or M5). However, my financial situation is even better than it was earlier, and I can afford to drive around something a little nicer than my '02 Sebring.
Since I planned on moving to a house in a suburb around Dallas when I graduated, I didn't want a six-speed for a daily driver - considering I'd be in traffic every morning. However, since I'll be getting rid of whatever car I get around the time I start working full-time, I can get a manual since I live in the city (and I'm not worried about traffic).
I like the Chrysler's body style much more, though. They are both about the same in terms of acceleration, price, etc. It really comes down to looks and transmission.

Why? I'm not going to buy another CTS... :umm:
I'm debating between the two because I want to get one sometime before spring and keep it until ~2008. Then I am going to get rid of it and get either the E55 (or its replacement) or E60 M5.
I just don't want to buy the CTS and then a year later, there's a new model out...I'm not down with owning the older body style on a luxury sedan.

Your in Texas now right?
You do realize ~45k'ish on an autoloan is about the same as a good rate on a 30 year mortgage for about ~160k.
I'd buy the house first keep the Sebring another 1-2 years.
I should of took my own advice and got the home first too, I could have 2-3 homes by now instead. Taking a 50k loan or lease will put a small dent in short term debt to income.

There are complications. First, I didn't say I couldn't have the house and the car at the same time, so that's really a non-issue. :p
There are a few reasons why I'm thinking about waiting to buy. First, I live in an apartment in the middle of Dallas - about a mile and a half from my law school.
The houses I am looking at are located in suburbs that are twenty, thirty, even forty minutes removed from the city. I don't want a commute of that length to school. Work is completely different; I have no issue driving thirty minutes every morning. I do, however, have an issue doing that while I'm still a student.
I've had suggestions to simply buy a townhouse in Dallas and build equity here until I decide to move, but I really don't know if I'm up to moving three times in three years...I haven't decided if the hassle is worth it.

CTS is rated one of the best cars by Consumers Reports. Its value should remain pretty good for awhile. I don't see the Cadillac looking dated for a few years either since most manufacturers have copied the edgy styling.

It won't necessarily look dated, but if there's a newer version, I don't want the older one. :wall:

CTS-V will not likely debut with the next-gen CTS. As is typical of almost all GM introductions, you'll have to wait a year for the hotted-up version

If the rumours are correct, the next gen will water down the Art & Science design theme somewhat. Picture a softer and sleeker version of the current body.

:hmm:
Since the "new" CTS is slated for 2008, that means they'll be availible in mid-2007. If the new CTS-V won't be released until '09, that means they'll be out in mid-2008.
:hmm:
That means the CTS-V can still be in the running, because I won't own the "old" version, if I get one. :p

then get the CTS-V
300Cs/srt8s/magnums/blah are too trendy for me. You know how you dont want the "old"model? Well I dont want anything trendy. Like H2 hummers, escalades, denalis, etc...If rappers flaunt them, i dont want them:D Id rather have a standard tahoe and put escalade seats/dash/centerconsole etc. in there
yeah, im weird like that

Go for the SRT-8. I just ordered one this week. :D
The lease on my Q45 was up last month, and I was naive enough to think I'd be able to just jump into an SRT-8. The dealers all have them, but they want $5,000 - $7500 over MSRP. The only way to get one at sticker or better was to order it. Got my wife the QX56, and I'm driving her Expedition for a few months.
The CTS-v is a very nice car, but the SRT-8 is (IMHO) better looking and the larger size is a plus. There's not enough to distinguish the CTS-v from the CTS.
Now, the STS-v... :hmm:
the new CTS will be a 2008MY released in '07 I think. I posted pics of the new one in one of needcash's random threads. The V series version of it will not be offered in the initial year of production.

I'm not modding my daily driver luxury sedan, especially one that I'm going to toss in ~3 years. If I end up with one or the other, the most they'll see is a Corsa or MagnaFlow cat-back. :p

The sticker has them at 14/20. I don't care about gas mileage. If I did, I'd be looking at four cylinder Hondas.

Awesome! What color did you get? I am partial to the "Silver Steel Metallic" and I only want the second option group (DVD navigation). I, too, would build and order one were I to go with the SRT-8.

It's always been the favorite. It's just that I wasn't previously considering the Cadillac for transmission reasons. Since I don't have to worry about that for a few years, it became an option again. :p

Ohh I'm not saying your not 100% capable of getting both at the same time. I just said it's typically better to buy the home first for a few reasons, the first being unless your already pulling 150k+ a year a 50k car note may put a small dent in your beacon, and debt to income and may cost you a few closing points and or a slightly higher APR, on your home since a car is seen mostly as a liability since it depreciates so much in the 1st/2nd years. Also the Feds keep saying they are going to keep raising the fed funds rate at a "measured" rate so I'd say mortgage rates (longeterm here I know they have dropped just a touch slightly) are only going to go up in the next 1-2 years.
Now a lot of people say Katrina may put a halt on the measured hike (at least the next one later this month I believe), but I don't think it will as inflation is a bigger worry right now imo.
I just think it's smarter to get the home first. But I know how tempting toys are. It cost me to make the same mistake. :)

this man speaks the truth. purchase the house first. you're much better off. hasn't mattered for me but that's because if i'm not approved for the best rate on something i just have my father cosign for it :D his income is so high that nothing really puts a dent in his beacon.
