View Full Version : Anyone dealt with this before?
My car has been in storage for the last five months. I took it out yesterday to get some work done on it and was forced to drive it today.
I smell pure gas when I start it up and gas mileage has been cut in about half. I have heard this happens when a car sits but I would like to know how long I will have to deal with it and if there is something I can do to clean the injectors or something to make it stop running so rich.

You can have the injectors cleaned of course, but also check things like the TPS on the throttle body...
Thanks, I will check it out. Can I check it with AutoTap? If not, I will send it off to my brother inlaw and have him use his equipment to check it.

just run some fuel injector cleaner though it should take care of it gas probably just went bad if you didnt ad sta-bil
No SES light, just raw gas smell. Its stored in a heated garage so I dont know if that had anything to do with it. I have stored it yearly since I got it and this happens each spring. It just seems to be more noticable now.

if you're smelling gas, first thing I'd do is a visual inspection for leaks, if for nothing else than for safety... dont want to be running the car with fuel leaks
Run the tank low and fill up with fresh gas; olde fuel doesn't fire that great. Also, if you're disconnecting the battery, your PCM may have a little bit of learning to do. As far as it being more noticable than years past, go through the wires & plugs and see how healthy things look.
I am going to put new plugs in it probably this June. There are no leaks present, I was actually proud when I went to move it from where it was sitting for five months and there wasnt a single drop of anything on the floor.
