Exhaust has always been a big deal for me, and I'm looking to get a clean, deep, agressive sound out of a system. I've done my research and read about all the different catbacks available for the f-body, and I think that although borla and corsa sound great, I want to go with a chambered setup. GMMG and stainless works both make chambered catbacks that sound good, but are not cheap. I was getting some ideas of having a catted true dual setup fabricated using some chambered mufflers. I found out that someone with an ls1 did the same thing and is very happy with the setup (testimonials on sweet thunder website) For about the same amount of money I'd be getting a chambered true dual system that will sound and perform better than a single in dual out setup. What do you guys think? Im open for imput? i was thinking of something like this, maybe with an H crossover instead.

id run it on stock manifolds now, so i dont think clearance will be that big of an issue. Thanks for any imput :)

I'd love to see how it looks under the car... :yup:

I like it. Is there enough room on the driver side to go over the axle?

I don't see how they're gonna do that, personally. Not on an F-body.

Oh a X pipe is better than a H pipe at least on my 2nd gen it is.

it wouldnt work with 3 inch piping, thats for sure

i think it would be a good idea to put two sets of chambered mufflers to reduce the noise. Im not out for the volume, but for the quality. also, it would be for a daily driver, and interior drone would have to be minimal. I might have to route both 2.5 inch pipes over the axle on the passengers side as well. have to see what the shop guys would say about it

Id love gmmg  but im thinking fabricating a chambered dual system will give me more bang for the buck

You'd have to... there isn't enough room on the driver's side to be routing exhaust pipe.. I don't even think 2.5" would fit

I don't see any need for two sets of chambered mufflers, either... LS1s aren't that loud.. one set would probably do just fine.

it would be for an lt1 daily driver, not an ls1. i doubt ill need both sets, but if its too loud i can add the second set later. Im in an emissions area too, so i need cats on there.

That setup with an H would be my dream exhast setup... hooking right up to some Kooks LT's and Random Tech Highflow Cats (or not ;))

There is room for a 3" pipe over each side of the axle. Ask Rottluver ;) He has 3" true duals from the headers to the tips, out the back over each side of the axle

I have 2.5" duals over the axle

just as a heads up... one 3 inch flows better than 2 2.5's if im not mistaken...

if i am someone will correct my idiocricy.... but if im right... y do the duels?

Edit:

3 inch area = 7.06 in^2
3 inch wall = 9.42 in

2.5 inch x 2 area = 7.87 in^2
2.5 inch x 2 wall = 14.06 in

simple calculation gave me the numbers shown above... i was using a hand held calc (no TI 89 Titanium for me tonight) so forgive math error and please correct me if im wrong... as you can see using 2 2.5 inch will barely give you any more area for flow to pass through and there is twice the surface to cause turbulence and friction... gotta say no reason to use dual 2.5s

Couple reasons why it would be ok. First of all, duals organize and equalize the exhaust pulses better. Also, the LS1 like a little bit of back pressure. Some say 3" duals are TOO free flowing for the LS1

i heard that too skytower, some people talk about not having enough backpressure actually has a negative effect.. and 3" should be used only for big horsepower

Where would you get the chambered mufflers from? Could you just buy the mufflers from GMMG and then take your car to your local muffler shop for the custom fab your dreaming up?

I like the idea... that would rock... wonder what the $$$$ would be like?

I had a set of custom true duals with sweet thunder's and it sounded great. I had to get rid of them when I went STS, and a buddy is running them on his SS now.

They weren't cheap, and it is possible to go over the axle and out the back (with 2 1/2 inch pipe). Be warned though that if you go from a 10-bolt to a 12-bolt it'll need to be reworked (something about less room with a 12).

Had mine done by a local guy who is a wizard with pipes and tubing - he does custom roll cages, exhausts, and even little things like a front end support for those guys that want the weight savings of removing all the filler but don't want a saggy nose. Good stuff.
