Can anyone tell me where the lift point is for the front of a 2000 firebird? I have heard it is the k-member, where exactly is the k-member? I am really cautious about doing anything to my car, but it is time for the first oil change.

I would definately get a set of Rhino Ramps. Best thing you can get for working on the car :yup:

kmember will work fine - but you can dent it so most people put a 2x4 under it.

Thanks, but I am still not sure where the k-member is. I am going to use a jack and stands because I already have them and don't have money or room in my garage for ramps. I have so little garage space I can barely get my car in. I think the K-member runs just near where the trans meets the engine, but not sure and I don't wanna f-up my car. Anyone ever messed up their f-body by improper jacking? care to share?

Yes, you can definately mess up your f-body by jacking in the wrong place. The K-member is directly under the engine. There is a VERY flimsy brace under the trans/engine connection. DO NOT jack from there, only the K-member.
If you are in tight spaces, I think ramps would work perfectly. They are made of lightweight plastic material and can be stored standing up in about a 1 ft square area or tucked away on a shelf. I just don't trust jacks or jack stands. Often times when I need to get my car up high, I will have all 4 wheels on ramps, then jack the frame up and use stands from there. Double protection. For a simple oil change though, I just drive up on the ramps and git 'er dun. Swing by an Autozone and check out the Rhino Ramp brand ramps before you dismiss them. They are definately the safest and easiest way for general maintance on your car.
Here is some good info on lifting your car: http://www.installuniversity.com/install_university/installu_pages/sophomore_year/ls1_lift_points.htm

Yep. I took the tech guy's advice yesterday and just bought the rhino ramps. It definitely made the oil change a breeze. :)

I got home and tried to jack er up at the k-member, but my small floor jack did not reach. So I bought a pair of Rhino ramps, 8000 lb capacity. Put the ramps on my garage floor, tried to drive up them 3 times, they kept slding forward, yes the little rubber pad was installed under each one. So I took a parking block I have in my garage behind the ramps and tried to drive up, the driver side went right up, the passenger side ramp slid so I was 1/2 way up it. I just decided to go ahead set the parking brake, chock the rear wheels and throw a jack stand under each side. I got my oil changed, Mobil 1 full synthetic. I have 2 parking blocks so next time I will try holding the ramps in place with both. The ramps work well if they don't slide away from you, and as long as your car can be started. Thanks for the help.

I had that problem initially as well. With a rear drive car, you have to go up them easily so you don't push them forward. After a couple tries you will get it. I can drive up mine with no problem now.

I use a 3 ton floor jack and put it either under the rear diff carrier.Or under the front cross member under the engine. When I store both T/A's for the winter I put two 2 1/2 ton jack stands under the A frames in front(both cars) and for the 02 under the shock bracket while the 70 under the rear axle shafts close to the drum brakes.

Winter? That is when it is nice and cool so you can drive with the t-tops off right :)
And yes, there is lots of snow during that time, but it is all about 2-4 hour drive away and that is when we take the fiancee's car and I have these weird long stick things on top of the car :D

Hey Firebird nut the cement in your garage is probably real smooth that is why the ramps slide. Try them on the driveway, it is usually a little more rough and the ramps won't slide as easy.
