Could anyone help me? I need to know a bunch of stuff.
How much should i expect to pay for a low mileage 95-97 LT1? Are 6 speeds rare? Would it be easy to find a black LT1 Six speed with t tops?:dunno::help:
How moddable are they? does it accept FI well? What would you go with if you had to FI it? :help:

low mileage, probably $7K or a bit more. theres tons of automatics(at least by me). i wanted a six speed and i had to travel 50 miles to get one. unless you get very lucky, finding a low mileage black lt1 six speed with t-tops isnt gonna happen unless you are willing to travel. as far as i know, they are very moddable. i hear it accepts forced induction well but you have to modify the block a bit or else you can push that must boost. the best thing to do for them NA is put a decent cam in it, and get a good head job. i hear they hold nitrous very well.

this forum has a lot of excellent LT1 advice, its the "lt1.com" of sorts
finding a 6 spd t-tops black isnt hard as long as you are willing to travel like vin says
LT1s are very modible, a bolt ons/heads/cam combo can have you near 400 rwhp if not over
FI is also a path some chose to take, although I believe that a stock car can only really run 4 psi "safely", a rebuild is really neccesary to run over that amount

you can find a black ttop 6spd you just have to look. It took me almost 2 months before I found mine a couple hours away in Charleston. Check the classifieds everyday and look on autotrader.com which is where I found mine. You should be able to find a low mileage one in good condition from 6-10k
mine is almost what you want lt1 black but hardtop and auto.
it has a rebuilt motor and hooker longtubes and borla catback. 73k on the car $7500:D

T-tops are nice but if I were looking again Id go with a hardtop. Theyre structurally more solid and weigh less. A six speed is definitely more fun to drive but an auto is easier to launch. Then again the t-56 will last forever(145k on mine with no problems) on a stock car, but an auto wont see much more than 100k miles when abused.

Oh yeah and Id go with a lighter color than black(maybe silver or red). I have a forest green car and scrapes/cracks/dings as well as dirt show up a whole lot more. My sister boyfriend has silver 99 and it always looks clean.
Personally before I owned one I liked black, but now I think the LT1 camaros look best in silver or white.

I'm over 100k on my auto and I drive it hard and it's still perfect, no signs of it going out anytime soon.
As far as hardtops weighing less, it's only 12lbs less than a t-roof car, so it's barely any different. Mine is a hardtop and I miss having t-roofs in the summer. :(

T tops was an option I didnt care about one way or the other..... they do still leak though, and for hardcore racers, they arent as stiff.

Of course.
But remember, the SS hood isn't fake. The car as an SS is. I expected a more accurate statement from you. :p

It's not the t-roofs that leak though, it's the top of the window, and my hardtop car leaks just the same as my two t-roof cars did. Going through a no touch car wash in either case results in me getting soaked. If anything, my hardtop is worse than my other two with t-roofs were!

Well, you just remember that you only very recently got the real thing... before that you had a female-repelling fake SS hood :umm: (remember?? "why is it all wavy like that???" ) :p  :D
Patman, I wasnt saying where they leak..... I've mostly noticed it is where the t panel has it's seals, where they meet up with the window itself, so near the front and rear edges of the t-top. My hardtop doesnt leak, course I dont take it to drive-through car washes (shame on you! :nono: ) :p

What do you expect me to do when it's 10F outside? Can't wash it in my driveway, nor at one of those coin washes as it'll just freeze instantly. And I don't like to let the salt stay on my paint for too long. Besides, mine is a daily driver, not a show car anyhow (although I do like keeping it clean)

That's ok, I hate hockey anyhow! :) Besides, where else can you get the chance to drag race in 30 degree weather! :)

Let me rephrase that, "where else can you drag race in 30 degree weather that isn't at 5000ft above sea level?" :)

I'll have you know it's not at 5000 ft............
It's 5800 ft. and only like 7-10,000 with the DA factored in.
So there

Your car must feel like a rocket when you make a trip down to sea level I bet? Ever race on a sea level track? How far of a drive is it for you to get to a sea level (or at least sub 1500ft) dragstrip?

I've never had my Z28 to sea level. it would be a several hundred mile drive to get anywhere where performance would be noticeably affected.

Holy crap that sucks.
We've had some chilly weather here the past few days, and my car feels like an animal. You should take a weeks vacation in the Z just so you know what the rest of the country feels when they drive a bolt on LT1 :D

I love being able to race in the early spring and late fall when it's cold out! It was perfect last Saturday at the track, only about 45F, 40% humidity and 30.2" barometer. But when I got there the timing system was down and they didn't get it up and running so they sent everyone home! Now this weekend is rainy and warmer, and the long range looks like we might not see those types of cool conditions again this season. I know my car is capable of 13.5s (or maybe even a 13.49) under super cool and super dry weather.

I know I am late to this....
But buy an LS1.;) you won't regret it. People told me 3 years ago...Get the LT1- you can do more to it. Now I kick myself in the ass all the time for gettin the LT1 car. Other than the LS1's have some oil consumption with a big cam...they are far superior.
I have a budget built 383(still got $5000 in it), Heads, and cam and only made 387 to the wheels...where as a fellow club member has a hot cammed LS1 that slaps down 398. Of course mine was built with a 200 shot in mind.

I looked for 2 years for my red '97 SS. I was not going to setttle for anything untill I found exactly what I wanted. Looked online in all the western states (I am in Idaho). I did research online about all the issues they have etc. and how the LS1's were "better"! It was frustrating to say the least. Finally I found one basically in my own back yard, 20 minutes away. Car was perfect, kept in storage most its life, looked and smelled brand new with only 17,000 highway miles on it. One owner, he ordered it new in '97. And yes the guy wanted way too much, but I got him down, and yes I paid too much. But a car is worth what someone will pay for her, so that is what drives the sale. Yeah, I could have gotten the LS1 around here for probably cheaper but I am IN LOVE with how the LT1's sound and look. Plus I NEVER ran across a LS1 SS at all (not to mention an LS1 in any decent shape at ALL), and I wanted the SS. I get compliments and stares from yes, even the LS1 guys. It is a battle you will never win arguing with them about. It is all about what YOU want, so don't settle. Keep looking. Eventully you will find her. :yup:
And for the record my T-tops have never leaked and I take mine to the car wash at least 2 times a week. I spray the hell outta that car and never ONE drop inside. :p

Recently had my 95 6-speed car appraised by an exotic dealer here in Destin. It is Silver w/black top and mirrors, 52000+ miles, driver's power seat, cloth interior, AM/FM cassette.
The dealer said it would be worth about 8k with a new set of tires. The car is not for sale but maybe that will help you out.
See ya,

My hardtop hasn't leaked on me. I wash it with a power washer and the interior doesn't get wet.
Oh... and my hardtop has SFCs too. What now huh? ;)

be patient and dont settle. your not looking for anything hard if your willing to travel. cost will be a factor. i went to miami for my formula from atlanta. but its one of 27 that are this way and the interior was basically perfect. i need a new floormat and the dash cracked on me later on. both of those things are very cheap and easy to fix.
the LT1 is a great engine so dont listen to the LS people rag on it. i love my LT and will not be trading it for an LS ever. get what you want and be happy with it. take care of it and enjoy the drive.
my ttops only leak every once in a while. and its very minor. seems to be when its in a certain position only. i dont have SFCs nor will i be getting them. the car is more rigid than people give it credit for. the ttops do not offer any sturctural support. the only structural support a hard top offers over a ttop car is that composite panel that is the top. i throw mine through the corners with no adverse affects from not having SFCs or adjustable LCAs on a lowered car.
happy hunting. be patient youll find your dream car. Trey
