OK i found a ta that has 93 k miles on it. I talked to the guy that has it now. It is in great condition. How well do they hold up? should 93k stop me from buying it?

Just depends on it's life.. Like any other car if it is well maintained it'll have no problems for many miles to come....
How much is he looking for? If it's cheap and the car is in great shape, I'd say no worries cause you can always rebuild it.. And of course make it better... :yup:
BTW Welcome..

i told him i had 5300 to spend and he said "this car is you , its in your price range" I know the guy so he not gonna screw me over. MY dad has known him for years. He bought it off some dude he has not even washed or detailed the car and i looked at the motor and it was spotless .... as well as the int. the body was in real good shape also. Just a few chips on the aftermarket hood.

If your looking for an LT1 try and get one with not only a new optispark but new plugs and wires too. Boy those are a bitch in the LT1's. I've heard of shops charging 1200 for a tuneup on one of those. Some people run the up to 100,000 miles and get rid of them because they don't want to fork out the money for a tuneup.

I am willing to pay a good amount. But im not paying 6000 for a 93/94 z w/ 90k+ Its just not gonna happen. I figure if i just wait some one will have the car im looking for.
I got a 94 formula with 97k miles on it for $4800 and it's in excellent condition. It runs like it's new, only thing was a few cosmetic things that needed to be fixed. Found it on autotrader.com, check on there. :)

Autotrader, ebaymotors, cars.com. I just put up a WTB ad on CZ28.com and a few weeks later I purchased my formula w/128k miles on it for $3500. Just had brand new opti put in.
If you're worried about plugs and wires, just install a set of longtubes and a set of Thunderracing's Over the vave cover wire kit and a plug change will take you 20 minutes. Wires are no where near the headers to get burned either, so wire changes will be less occuring.

What a rip! A tune up on one of these is basically plugs and wires. No points, distributor cap, timing adjustments, carb adjustments, or anything like that. For $1200, they better be painting it and fixing the driver's seat side support!
My '93 T/A has 99,000 on it right now, and all original/stock (except the clutch and SLP tale off wheels) down to the brakes and plugs/wires. I'll be doing the plugs and wires before too long. I figure within the next few years, I'll be replacing the water pump, opti, fuel pump, alternator, and maybe even power steering pump. I'm going back with OEM parts, no aftermarket crap. After that, she'll be good for another 100,000! I only put about 5500 miles a year on it now. I bought it back in '97 with 44K miles on it for 14K. I'll say I got a pretty good buy!

What is an optispark anyway?
Man I am dreading the job of changing my plugs and I only have six of them. GM made it a very unfriendly job.
I bought mine from carmax. It has had some minor issues but it is my baby so when it breaks I will fix it or get it fixed. I got a 3 year warrabty on it, so that will help to keep it running.

Optispark is the distributor. It's a great distributor, but it's in a bad place, under the water pump. It's driven by the front of the camshaft and I was told that you have to take the radiator out in order to replace it because of the shaft that goes back to the cam. It's very susceptible to water damage. In addition, normal wear and tear takes it's toll over the years. I have 99,9XX.X miles on mine, and still works great. Have a buddy that has a '95 or '96 Z28 with 188,000+ on his, and no problems. But some of them go out around 100,000 mile mark.
My '93 is my baby, also. It's been a great car over the years, and when it breaks, I will fix it and keep going. Eventually, I'd love to pull it off of the daily driven routine and detail it all out with new paint, steam cleaning engine and underneath, replace the driver's seat lumbar, and give it to my son, provided we still have fossil fules when he's old enough to drive!
